Most Underrated Player in US National Team History is…

In this episode, Andrew Wiebe, David Gass, Bobby Warshaw and Susannah Collins give two US soccer legends their due.

First up, Seattle Sounders defender Chad Marshall. The three-time Defender of the Year hung up his boots midseason, but not before winning everything there is to win in MLS and inspiring a young Bobby to go to Stanford. Then it’s time to remember Run DMB. DaMarcus Beasley did his thing for 20 years and he’s still got six months to go. The crew explains how a kid from Fort Wayne, Ind., made it and how he inspired thousands in the process.

Also in this episode … John Strong and Stu Holden from FS1 stop by to evaluate Andrew and David’s All-Star Fan XI presented by Target ballots and talk Gold Cup. Adam Belz from the Scuffed Podcast also gives you a five-minute guide to the US at the U-20 World Cup.

  1. Chad Marshall was always one of the most feared CBs that attackers feared to play against. As for DMB I think he is in the top 10 of all time greatest USMNT players as he was fun to watch and game in clutch as a player.

  2. How about Steve Snow??? I doubt these guys even know who he is. He only played twice for the USMNT, but was a monster in Olympic qualifying for Barcelona 92, and scored twice in those games. This guy was MASSIVELY underrated. Not a defender… a goal scorer… but totally forgotten nonetheless, and the USSF didn't realize what they had with him. He was a bit of a head case. But look at Neymar, or Ronaldo, or any of the big international stars. Again, I seriously doubt any of these guys know who the hell he is.

  3. Late with the timestamps!

They're always in the description, though…

  4. He is the most underrated but the best in the game. He's ball control is second to none. He may not be a scorer but can hold mildfield as great as a superstar n distribute passes to the right team mate when need it

  5. The Defender of the Year award should be named after the Chad Marshall. Year after year of excellence, no one won the award more. Domestic player. Gentleman. Clean player. He is the Landon Donovan of defenders.
