  1. This commentary was off the mark. Norway came into these world championships from a really strong qualifying tournament. The big talking point domestically in Norway isn't about all the players that do well, like Haaland, Sørloth or Nusa. It's about how Martin Ødegaard still doesn't seem to shine and be at the elite level he displayed at Arsenal in previous seasons. We see the same lack of game time and sub-par performances that Arsenal fans have been complaining about, and we dream of him finding his usual self. Ødegaard didn't do extremely poorly. We just expect him to be world class, which we know he can be.

  2. Many people only see the goals that Haaland scores but they overlook how he only with his present inside the box can tie up a whole defense leaving opening for other players. Look at the corner where Ostigard scored on a heading. Two defenders were locked on Haaland while the rest tried to cover the other tall players. That gave Ostigard all the time in the world to attack the ball. Last night we saw a similar situation where the Croatian defense was focused on the tall English players and gave Harry Kane to put the ball in the net with a header.

  3. Haaland actually scored a hat-trick in this game. He headed the last ball towards the goal, and Hussain touched it, trying to head it out. It's not an own goal. It's a deflection. Should have been accredited to Haaland.

  4. I am so tired of «experts» emphasizing that Haaland is the best goal scorer insinuating he isnt a complege player. Besides his around 380 goals so far in his career, he also has around 70 assists, and thats more than some creative midfielders have.

Because of his speed and strength he doesnt need fancy dribbling all the time (and lose the ball as other strikers do), because his insane pace and power means he just outruns defenders. Haaland is a generational striker who redefines what it means do be a complete striker by combining multiple elite qualities rarely seen together. His mental and physical strength, positioning, vision, build-up, passing, aerial dominance, work ethic, speed, shots and tactical intelligence all combine to make him one of the most complete strikers ever.

He also rarely goes in offside. Thats a big part of being a great striker. Since he came to City he has been been in offside only around 20 times…in 4 seasons! Compare it to MBappe who has been in offside at least 130 times in the same amount of games. That shows Haalands intelligence and how he screens and does an extra movement to trick defenders to not get in offside position.

Saying others strikers is complete and limiting him to only a finisher is so disrespectful. A strikers job is goal contributions (goals and assists;. He is in a league of his own when it comes to both. Haaland is redefining what a complete striker means today.

Instead of disrespecting him, people should celebrate Haaland as a model of modern complete striker: powerful, fast, intelligent, and unselfish (cause he really is a team player).

  5. The disrespect of Norway and ignorance is pathetic. Do you even know football (and I mean football, like the rest of the world calls it, not American football)?

What if people said, USA only qualifies fir the world cup usually because the qualification is easier than in Europe.

  6. Norway is only there because there are so many teams, you don't know what you're talking about. We won our group easily and beat Italy 3-0 and 4-1We won all our matches.

  7. The argument could be made that the 4th goal was Erling's as well. He was impactful when the team itself seemed sluggish for the most part. As for Nusa, despite Iraq trying to corner him with 2 or 3 players, he still managed to evade them on several occasions. He is consistently one of the most impactful players on the national team. A joy to watch. As for the ratings, I had no idea how Martin got a 7.2 when he produced, and I absolutely hate to say this, one of the worst performances I have ever seen from him and I'm not talking purely on the national level. Oscar Bobb came on later in the game and was immediately making things happen. He was without a doubt far more effective than Martin. Giving him a 6.6 is laughable as is the 6.7 you gave Nusa. Whether it was the first World Cup game ever for these guys or because of all the hype leading up to it (and believe me, the hype here in Norway is through the roof), the team as a whole seemed rather sluggish with a few brights spots here and there. Glad for the win but if they play like that against France, look out!!

  8. I have to say, Iraq played well, the first half they ran their socks of pressing like mad. That + the nerves of the Norwegian defenders made for a hard half for Norway. I think this experience was crucial to many players on Norway. And do not forget the subs. We now have Bobb, Schjelderup, Thorstvedt and Østigard coming on – two goals from them too. Bobb and Schjelderup are two coming world class wingers I think, and to be able to sub on two like that is a massive boost if you need goals and quick feet! Will be very interesting to see the next matches in this group. I think Iraq may create trouble for all teams on their set pieces and airial attacks and also with pressing high. They were a lot better as a team than I expected!

  9. Watch the top 100 best players in the world 2005 and you understand why Haaland isnt as good as some think he is. He has been successful in one team, in one league. Zlatan played with and against the best, and won 8 league titles in an era we had almost all the best at the same time. Haaland is good, he is big, but he is not even close to Zlatans technique and results

  10. Iraq is one of the worst teams in the WC and it boosted the already huge egos of the Norwegians. We will see how they fare against better teams. Perhaps a second or third position in the group… It must be like May 17th for them now…

  11. norway is always better in the second half, but playing in the u.s is ocourse a new exsperience that needs aclimation. big crowd, lots of noice, heat, and its the first game lots of thoughts for the supporters whos traveled the world and payed lots, the national pride, lots of preassure to make the game worth it for viewers, and theres the american insecurity, they are exstrememly unrelyable and armed, you cant get real food in the u.s so your stomach might be unsettled, the oposing team will have a playstyle you need to get a feel for, theres the new aspect of the waterbreaks, since the americans have to get theyre commercials in couse theyre so greedy. theres alot that goes into it, things that matter for the game.

  12. Would france go far without embappe , of course they will win wc . Would norway go to wc without Erling . Thats the difference . We have Erling dragging norway . Of course we cant win

  13. WHAT A CLOWNISH COMMENT ABOUT NORWAY ’S PARTICIPATION !!!
NORWAY QUALIFIED WITH THE BEST STATISTICS OF ALL PARTICIPANTS AT THIS WORLD CUP
A PERFECT 100 PERCENT WIN RATIO WITH A 375 GOAL SCORE
