Drogheda United are the 2024 Sports Direct Men’s FAI Cup winners after a famous 2-0 victory over Derry City secured a first FAI Cup triumph in 19 years. A first half opener from Andrew Quinn gave The Drogs a deserved lead & they doubled their lead on 58 minutes after Douglas James-Taylor converted from the penalty spot. Roared on by a crowd of 38,723 which is the largest ever for a Men’s FAI Cup Final between two non-Dublin clubs, Drogheda United defended their lead soundly to bring the famous old trophy back to Boyneside for only the second time in the club’s history.

Derry finished 4th in a 2 horse race, got knocked out of Europe to a literal pub team, lost the cup final and have no European football next season despite having one of the best teams in the league on paper.

UP THE DROGS
Derry tactics were really naive. Everyone knows Drogheda are better without the ball and get their goals from set pieces and quick breaks. Derry should have allowed Drogheda more of the ball and allow them to open up more and then hit them on a counter attack. Derry played right into Drogheda's hands. I'm a Drogs fan and could hardly believe it!

League of Ireland is growing. Attendances and interest has increased a lot this season. I’m a Rovers fan and it’s a pitty we didn’t win 5 in a row.
However it’s great for the league as a whole that Shelbourne won it making the league more competitive , Pats and Derry deserve credit for pushing for the league all season too.
And it’s brilliant that Drogheda have won the cup this will bring in more fans who don’t usually follow the league and bring in revenue too.
The deal with LOI TV and Premier Sports is exciting also. Long may it continue.
We have a great league with huge potential. We need to all get behind the league and support our local teams.
