Young Stars Flock to MLS

Atlanta United striker Josef Martínez scored 31 goals, shattering the MLS single-season goals record that had stood since 1996.

In the past two years, 12 Venezuelans have signed with MLS clubs, including Yangel Herrera (NYCFC), Junior Moreno (D.C. United), Jefferson Savarino (Real Salt Lake) and Martinez. Most are under 25, and they are finding success during troubled times in their home country.

  1. It will happen one day. I could see these guys in the starting 11 of the Venezuelan national team and singing "Oh Josef Martinez!" when he scores. That's what I like about MLS it opens doorways for countries where you never would think that there is soccer Talent there.

  2. I think the current Venezuelan squad is one of the best they've had in a long time and the support they've been receiving from their people is unreal. They definitely have a chance of making it to the 2022 World Cup considering their squad isn't inferior to the ones of Peru, Ecuador, or Paraguay. Plus they have so many good youth player coming out as well and their performance in the 2017 U-20 World Cup shows it.

  3. Its nice to see that despite the turmoil in their own country theyre getting opportunities to shine here in the MLS. Having Martinez lead the way for players like Savarino and others will make the MLS truly the destination league for other Venezuelans.

  4. Venezuela está destruída a causa del socialismo y el narco-comunismo. Ideologías que ahora abrazan los Demócratas y liberales que tanto gustan a la MLS.
    Venezuelan Socialism = Democrat Party
