  1. I'm really comfortable with the principles because of the increased risk it carries. Lets say from goalkick the #10 is on the ball as the last line, and an aggressive press disposses him, that's a big chance conceded by me, if not a goal.
Instead i think, a ball-playing defender alongside the #10 might mitigate thus risk. As both can impact games through carrues and dribbles

  2. The biggest problem I've seen, as a supporter of Vasco, is that the midfielders sometimes are not as good at ball playing under pressure as our center backs, and all the times this build up shape is maintained higher up the pitch, it leads to a very exposed backline, and that was exploited ruthlessly in the last games of the season

  3. Fernando Diniz's teams make so many runs and dummy runs at the same time …… just the other day was seeing his Vasco game it was like 3 to 4 players were running diagonnally at same instant but in very different directions …… it's really fun to watch his relationism football

  4. Super interesting! A question, when does the midfielders drop down to centre back position? What’s the trigger? And why don’t the marking opponents don’t follow the midfielders?
Personally I like to use a combo between dribbling and positional play in my build-up. Hence we use the positional play to create space and pockets allowing the centre back to dribble into space. It always creates a plus 1 player which allows us to go forward and dominate the games.

Interesting insight! spoke to the cosch of the newly crowned Swedish Champions Mjällby AIF who are playing a beautiful football and one interesting fact he shared is that the common denominator for losing the ball in build-up is to pass it on 1 touch. Hence, his team always use 2 or more touches in build up. They play extremely possession oriented and haven’t conceded a goal the entire season on a counterattack from losing the ball in build-up. Food for thought 😊
