FA Cup replays are being scrapped from the first round proper onwards, but is that fair on teams in the lower leagues?

The amount of arrogance from pl fans is disgusting. The team I support were in the national league last season (now in the national league south) but we earnt a replay with League one Derby. Came back from 2 nil down to earn a 2 2 draw at home. Its not just about the money (we've gone into administration now), but the memories for fans of smaller clubs. All because some foreign millionaires are a bit tired.
I think that lower league sides should always play at home when they play against premier league sides but im not sure about that for the championship sides
Make a vid ON LFC FALLING and DIPPING
If you dont want your star players to get injured, then play the kids instead. Im sure that a replay against Shrewsbury town isnt one that is a necessity to start haaland and foden. a ridiculous excuse from the premier league and the FA, just Take from the poor and give to the rich.
Great, all the knockout tournaments are now the bloody same.
Should have just moved the PL clubs inclusion a stage further and given the lower league teams a chance of going further in the competition.
"only 12 replays in the last 10 years" so more than once every year then. You make it sound like it's such a rare occurrence.
SEVEN HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO TEAMS are in the FA Cup. TWENTY were consulted.
There are only replays in the first 4 rounds of the FA Cup. The Premier League teams enter in the 3rd round. This means THEY WILL PLAY, AT MOST, TWO EXTRA MATCHES PLUS 60 MINUTES OF EXTRA TIME. AT. MOST. And they can't be bothered with this.
Replays help the lower league teams out the most, because they will be more likely to have their matches televised, giving them added TV & ad revenue, and they get a split of the gate for matches. So if a team holds on and draws against Manchester City at home, they get a split of the Etihad gate, which can be a life-saver for a lower-league club.
And speaking about City, someone said they're so exhausted from fixture congestion, etc. etc. Fine. Man City has a first-team squad of 22 players. But you know what they also have? THREE-TIME DEFENDING CHAMPIONS OF THE U23 and U18 LEAGUES. PLAY. THE. RESERVES. Start like 4 or 5 reserves along with regular first-teamers against a team like Hartlepool United. Oh, and how many players are on those teams? Well, just a glance at the Wiki pages for the Man City academy shows 26 players in the Reserves (known as the EDS or Elite Developmental Squad), and the Academy shows another 22. Even if that's it, that's a pool of SEVENTY PLAYERS they can choose from. And I'm sure that the reserves are at least the equal of a 4th-tier side, if not a 3rd-tier one.
So I have NO sympathy for this. These teams can jet all around the world on the offseason and play friendlies against all sorts of other teams to make more money for the club, but when it comes to actual COMPETITION and making sure MORE teams in England don't go belly-up…. they couldn't be arsed. (Also, the Prem has 8 fewer matches than the next 3 tiers, and there's no playoff system there, so that can be double-digit additional league games for a lower-league team. Add in some other competitions at lower tiers like the Bristol Motors Trophy and you have a TON of matches. If you want some comparisons:
Manchester City's 2023-24 fixture total: 64 matches
Wycombe Wanderers 2023-24 fixture total: 61 matches.
Wycombe were knocked out of the EFL Cup and FA Cup in the 2nd round and made the finals of the Football League Trophy. Man City were in the J League World Challenge, the Club World Cup, the Community Shield, and the FIFA Super Cup. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup in the 3rd round, but are in the finals of the FA Cup. They also made the semi-finals of the Champions League. And for all that, they played THREE MORE MATCHES.
Yeah, this is just self-serving action from the PL teams.
Should just have made the rule of no replays if one of teams is in Europe or another international club competition.
I’m for replays mainly cause it’s something unique that other tourneys don’t do. There is literally the efl cup for those that don’t like replays, why change the fa cup to be the same
This action doesn't make sense to me. If the frequency of replays has been only 12 times in 10 years then how's it affecting the fixture congestion? If the extra replays were benefiting the lower leagues then why scrap it without their consultation?
It's probably because of the increase in Champions League games next season. With replays, the amount of football that will be played will be ridiculous for the big Premier League clubs who usually win the competition.
PLEASE TURN TO JESUS CHRIST AND ACCEPT HIM AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR AND RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT AMEN 🙏🙌✝️🕊️❤️!!!
GOD BLESS IN JESUS ALMIGHTY NAME AND BY THE ALMIGHTY HOLY SPIRIT AMEN 🙏🙏🙌✝️🕊️❤️❤️❤️❤️!!!!!!!!!
Should scrap the whole competition if you ask me
Hate it.
I really really hate it.
Ooh no clashes and easing fixture congestions
Cue celebrations among fans !
Who likes this decision?
5 big premier league clubs and the fixture gurus that's it.
Should scrap the Carabao cup instead
Are you for or against this change?
Big clubs doing everything they can to pull the ladder up, as usual
Premier league teams playing non-league teams should always play as the away side in my opinion
short answer ‘the big six’ get whatever they want handed to them
They could also ad what they have in the Scandinavian leagues. Where you can sell your home advantage. So you get the away gate receipts plus a little more.
I can here what lower leagues criticize bit this comes from a wrong model like it just makes the players playing twice for one game
I would like to see all premier league teams that play in Europe removed from domestic cups. I’m tired of seeing players injured, playing at 80% energy or 30 men squads like city.
It's not just about money. Replays are part of the identity of the FA Cup and there is much satisfaction in forcing a replay agaisnt top opposition and inconveniencing them.
Happy
As a non-english I always hated the replays. THE most boring stuff, just go to ET and penalties
Shewsbury 🤦♂️
The question should not be whether it is fair to scrap replays (they should be scrapped in the preliminary and qualifying rounds, where players are largely part-time, which aren’t being scrapped 🤷♀️🤦♀️), but whether it is fair to do so without the consultation of 712 out of the 732 participating clubs for this season. The big clubs have stamped their feet and thrown a tantrum, essentially.
Wouldn’t scrapping replays benefit lower league teams as going straight to ET/PK’s would see them have a better chance of progressing and thus earning more money anyways?
The issue was that no lower leagues were consulted. Only the FA and the EPL got a say.
need to scrap efl cup
If teams aren't earning that many replays anyway, why is it necessary to scrap replays? Also aside from the top 5 in the premier, the rest aren't really playing anymore games than lower league teams.
