At the time Martin was doing rubbish and boring football, you can't say he didn't deserve to be sacked!

We were 7th and in playoff contention when Karanka left and ended up finishing 9th and nowhere near the playoffs under O'Neill – so why did he deserve to keep his job? He dropped our record signing for no reason whatsoever and could never find any kind of consistency until right at the end of the season when we had nothing to play for and so he started playing our record signing and we won 3 in a row – should never have been appointed
He was a decent manager. Did well at Leicester, Celtic and then took over Villa in turmoil and turned them into a club that give the top four a run for their money. I remember when Bobby Robson was at Newcastle and a lot of us wanted O’Neil to take over him when he wasn’t giving a new contract but got sacked anyway. Don’t know what happened was when he joined Sunderland just went a bit down hill. Maybe he couldn’t keep up with the times
