A few years back Mexico also had a golden generation. They even won the u17 World Cup. However when it came down to getting things done on the big stage nothing happened. Same thing has happened to other countries like Belgium and Croatia some of the world's greatest countries but they keep falling to move to the next step.

What Golden Generation?… We are so arrogant to think we should just be winning. I understand the individual players play for some prestigious clubs… But Uruguay is miles better as a nation.
Adjust expectations of the US team to a realistic level. Outside European nations there are only a few South Americans team that are world class, Uruguay one of them (and Argentina, Brazil.)

I’m American but only 2 things mixed 50% Portuguesa 🇵🇹 and 50% German & Swiss. My grandma comes from Madeira. I was just over there for the first time ever in Madeira not Portugal and welcomed with open arms and hospitality and ended up watching Portugal vs Slovenia at this mountainside Frango restaurant/bar and the comraderie was lovely. The guy I was talking to his brother played with CR7 growing up and they still are friends. It’s a much deeper more lovely feeling when you root for your own people. That’s why I could never get into American football ⚽️ because I don’t even like them like I do my own people.

The us national team has lots of potential, the problem is soccer isn’t the only sport here, there are three other major sports that American youth are often encouraged to play other than soccer, resulting in fewer soccer players then for example Brazil or Spain
As someone who has watched the usmnt for 30+ years, the Uruguay game was as disappointed as I’ve been watching a game. Just didn’t see a lot of effort or ideas from players or coaches
