An iconic piece of Premier League defending. Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk single-handedly stops a Spurs 2v1, leaving Son and Sissoko goalless.

Let's clarify one thing, for the people saying it's sissoko's fault for poor shot and vvd did nothing. Sissoko is RIGHT footed. He shot with his left, at a tight angle, at a time when vvd suddenly closed on him with an intent to kill, sissoko panicked and shot. He could have simply gone around vvd and passed to son who was free in front of the side of the goal that was gaping.
So, what VVD did here was force sissoko to attempt from his weak foot. He kept appropriate distance to lure sissoko into a false sense of security and jumping in at the last second making the other guy panic shoot.
Love VVD
‘Shit, Son might score, I’d better let Sissoko shoot!’
(Tbf he put him off at the end too, but that’s basically his tactic I think).
For people who thinks he didn’t defend, watch it as many times as possible to understand as this one is also quite similar to haaland’s attempt one where he was one-on-one. This is one of those shadow defending where u can’t always predict what u want/get and if mistakes occur, it does but he looks very skilled at that. Defending isn’t always about tackles and slide tackles. Its how u smartly defend and somewhat prevent from scoring whether its on target or off. but this looks quite tough to pull off.
Dreadful shot
Moussa Sissoko is the best for this

Been a different story Kane and Son… But pretty easy to identify the weakness there
no aura here, sissoko is just garbage mate
Van dijk>ramos all day every day. Say what you want but it’s true
Holy Glaze, Van Dijk did NOTHING
Raphinha better stop playing like Xavi's Raphinha..We need that clincal and decisiveness we witnessed before the International break.. And he should learn how to dribble from Yamal ffs
Greatest defender in English league history (I know BAMS will limit him to just pReMieR leAguE as if they aren't the same league)
Moussa Sissoko could barely shot a ball 😂 !
Virgil van dijk would have defended the twin towers
