USMNT vs. Jamaica: Gregg Berhalter post-game comments | Concacaf Nations League 3.21.24

The United States men’s national team (USMNT) survived a colossal upset loss to an injury-riddled Jamaica team, ranked 57th in FIFA to US’ No. 13, with a 3-1 win in extra-time.

With less than 30 seconds left in the match, USMNT leveled the match on a corner kick that was headed by Miles Robinson and bounced off the head of a Jamaica player for an own goal. Up to that point, the United States dominated possession trying to make up for their defensive mishap in the first 30 seconds of the match.

Greg Leigh gave the Reggae Boyz an early 1-0 lead in the first minute with a header off a cross by Bobby De Cordova-Reid. The haymaker strike to USMNT put the two-time defending Concacaf Nations League champs on the ropes.

The United States dominated possession for the entire match, spending most of it above 80%, but finishing with 77%. The United States outshot Jamaica 25 to 6, with seven of those 25 shots on goal. Jamaica goalkeeper Andre Blake finished the game with five saves.

In extra time, the USMNT duo of Gio Reyna and Haji Wright, who both subbed in the match during the second half, connected on a pair of goals.

The United States has won both previous iterations of the tournament, defeating Mexico in the inaugural tournament and Canada in 2023.

The United States will face the winner of the other semifinal, Mexico and Panama, in the 2024 Concacaf Nations League Final on Sunday, March 24 at AT&T Stadium.

  1. The “cognitive” superiority is stunning! Crocker is a genius for hiring this guy. Classy move taking a shot at Jesse on the heels of a performance like this.

  2. I wonder who coached this team in 2022 World Cup probably Greg plus we didn’t win vs Netherlands cause of this coach Greg, BJ Callahan is the best coach and we won last year2023 CNL cause of him we need Callahan moving forward for copa America and 2026 World Cup

  3. I actually think our first-half play "Wasn't." half bad. Then again you have to see that we are playing a Jamaica squad not at 100%. This Usmnt squad should be elite with all the talent on the field. When deciding who is at fault sometimes it is on the coach and sometimes you can pin the players for not going 100%. I am upset that GB did not pin this awful performance on himself. He needs to learn where to put these guys and where they can play together at their best. I was excited to watch the guys dominate… Now I am scared of watching them play.

  4. Berhalter is a mediocre coach for MLS team, we need a world caliber like Jesse Marsch who is more aggressive coaching style while Berhalter is to safe oriented.

  5. I don't remember anyone saying Gio shouldn't be called into camp. I only remember people talking about whether or not he WOULD be called into camp. Am I missing something here or is this just Gregg being Gregg again?

  6. For everyone saying Greg has to go the USMNT will need to start losing for that to happen. I’m on the fence with him…

We were not sharp yesterday bc some of the players didn’t play good. We have players who are on world class club teams and are way more talented than Jamaica. It’s not always the coach the players need to be better also.

  7. ⁸95.16 minute before to out of time coner was allowed. Which equals 90.16 minute before the goal and 90.63 minutes when the out of time goal was scored. The referee did what the coach couldn't have done.

  8. BY FAR THE WORST COACH THIS YOUNG TALENT OF PLAYERS COULD OF ASKED FOR. TALENTLESS SPINELESS NO IDEA OF WHAT STYLE AND WHAT PLAYERS HE WANTS TO PLAY. THEY NEED TO GET RID OF HIM ASAP IF THEY WANT TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL AT THE WORLD CUP.

  9. Bro should have been handed a pink slip and a bus ticket right there on the podium.

I confess, I defended him far longer than I should have done. Long since done taking up for him.

Gregg, there's a place for you in this world, but it's not in the dugout of a national squad.

I certainly don't hate the man. But there are lots of people i don't hate who have no earthly business managing a football club.

  10. I'm so happy you learned nothing from that game saying we need to get the ball out wide to fund space when all of our goals and good plays came from attacking through the middle Gio had 2 assists as a 10 yes a winger scored but he was pinched into the middle.

This man's tactics are horrible and you can tell its him players were getting visibly irritated and staring down GGG when it wasn't working. All they do is pass around the back get to a wing and pass it around the horse shoe then hit a cross to nobody or our 5'8" winger. This was just plain bad we are far and away the most talented in CONCACAF and we struggle to even look competent until extra time

  11. Gregg, cant even spell his first name right, Greg. Always seem so unprepared. Yes, hard to be cohesive when coming from different teams, but he is horrible at getting this team ready. No excuse for him to be basically rehired. There is enough time to fire this guy and get another coach to get this team right.

  12. FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE…..where are the FIRE MEN? And by the way, it was an own goal. Please this is insane. Congratulations????? What??? Ask a hard quesion. Please let it be his last post match interview. I'm not hating……just DONE!
