Steven Beitashour has turned into one of the best overlapping right backs MLS has ever had. But will he play for the US or Iran?

  1. A comment to 22dab95 , The word PERSIA OR PERSIANS is a conglomeration of many ethnic groups, perhaps u should visit some web sites or read up on Persia . Steve is a  Persian & he and us r all  proud of it .

  2. I heard Klinsmann saying steve was ranked # 7 on the list of qualifying for the U.S team, lets face it there's no way they would allow a Persian guy be on the team , Just like Hollyweird , they know what potential Persians have and racism is well alive in many aspects of american society !!!!!!

  3. I never said you have to be Muslim to be Iranian. I said most Iranians are Muslim. I am glad Beitashour was invited for the Iranian national team. I hope he makes it and I will be cheering for Iran and the USA in the world cup. My parents are Assyrians from Iran.

  4. Joe u are right they may not be very consistent but dont call them weak for not qualifying in the Olympics, since those players were young and unexperienced as they dont get enough friendlies, on the other hand Iran has talents like Nekunam the best CM of Asia and former cap of Osasuna, Rahmati best goalkeeper of Asia, Karimi who is known as the Maradona of Asia and the former player of Bayern, Dejagah RM of Fulham, Shojaei LM of Osasuna, Ghouchanjad of Standard Leige i would not call it weak

  5. Most Iranians want him to play for Iran but he clearly doesn't want to. It's so obvious he wants to play for the US. This is coming from an Iranian-American by the way.

  6. I'm a hardcore Iran football fan but culturally I am American. I think America has more potential in the long run. I'd definitely choose to play for USMNT and wear my jersey with pride though I'd love to play alongside the likes of Nekounam, Teymourian, Dejagah and the rest.

  7. The Iranian National team is weak, missing to be qualified for Olympic proves my point. I believe the little country of Ghatar will pass them by for the world cup qualification. The best chance for Steven to play in world cup is to stick with the US. The Iranian team is not bad but often without any aim for excellence. They are in consistence.

  8. Steven Beitashour is half Assyrian (his dad) and half Iranian (his mom). Too bad Assyria isn't a country anymore. Assyrians are Christians whereas Iranians are mostly Muslims. So don't argue about religion here. I don't know whether he'll play for Iran or USA. But Iran is qualifying for the world cup unless they unexpectedly collapse ( I am talking about the team).

  9. @Dreadlord67 He's already aid thay he wants to play for the US National team. His ability to assist the attack (currently has 9 assists overall) could be a dire asset for the national team. No other right back in the league has done the same.

  10. Absolutely, I think Beita could play with the USMNT. He is one of those true and rare wingbacks who can cross the ball then go back and defend quickly. The USMNT needs distributing players on the squad and Beita can do it when Cherundolo retires. He will play for the US.

  11. The Iranian team is probably pursuing him a little more than the U.S. team is currently. In addition to that, maybe he has closer ties to his Iranian heritage than his American one! The U.S. have some options in place of Steven, too. Maybe Steven is looking to go somewhere where he is more needed. I think for example, Kevin Alston, from the Revolution, could do a great job filling in for a spot that woudl otherwise be Beitashour's.
