  1. Em mi opinion la US open cup no de beria ser removida de la competencia con los equipos de la MLS porque estos partidos son interesantes ver un equipo de segunda darle pelea al de la primera divicion

  2. This is like people who ardently support womens basketball but don't watch any of the games. People want MLS to remain in a competition almost no one watches or cares about because it makes them feel better that it exists even if they never watch it. Leave that competition for the lower level clubs that actually benefit from participating in it.

  3. I think the problem itself is that the American mentality about sports is the model with closed economies, such as the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA since they are the only relevant leagues in the world that manage that sport, there is no competition, so you monopolize absolutely everything at an economic level and its development; However, soccer is the only sport in the world that has an open economy, since the market is literally global; That means that you have to truly COMPETE in economic terms, but mainly in terms of sports and development, since the US economy itself has it, but in terms of sports and development it is in the opposite direction to what works in the whole world. What I will say will sound strange but it is as if IN THE LAND OF CAPITALISM, the cradle of free competition, people want to take care of and overprotect businesses for fear of losing themselves simply for NOT KNOWING HOW THIS BUSINESS WORKS.

  4. This isn't rocket science. Look at how they do this with their tournaments in Europe. They don't take a month to say OK here is this tournament, they mix the games in with the regular season over the year. DUH!

  5. Please get all the facts before you make comments that are not well thought out. This is all about Media Rights; this was the first year that USSF took back control of its own media rights, and with it, the USOC and Don Garber were against the move, as now MLS can't put USOC matches behind the Apple TV paywall, which to Don Garber means that MLS is giving away free exposure during USOC matches, which he can't have… Believe me, this is just the beginning of the drama. I wouldn't be surprised if Don orders Inter Miami to NOT play Messi during the USOC.

  6. Funny how no one cared about the open cup until MLS decided not to compete. No one shows up to these games, teams regularly use smaller stadiums and there is minimal media coverage

  7. Fact 1: MLS gets a lot of their profit from Soccer United Marketing (SUM).
Fact 2: US Soccer ended their relationship with SUM so they could shop the USMNT rights around. MLS no longer breaks for the Gold Cup or promotes the USMNT.
Fact 3: SUM's most lucrative relationships are with CONCACAF and Mexican soccer. They expanded Leagues Cup and had CONCACAF add a CCL berth to the winner.
Do the math. This was the next step. Of course, if the USSF were to partner with them again…😉

  8. First, the comments made by the CBS Morning Footy Crew are shameful and ignorant. Too lazy to do their homework on this topic. This is all about greed and money. Overall, the US Open Cup champion is awarded $300,000 in prize money and a berth in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, while the runner-up receives $100,000 from the US Soccer Federation. MLS owners want the U.S. Soccer Federation to pay more prize money. It's simply not cost-effective for MLS to send their top clubs to play in the U.S. Open Cup for the amount of money.

  9. If people really cares about the us open cup they have to prove it attending to us open cup games not just complaining about it. Every season those stadiums are empty during this us open cup matches

  10. I think we can just get rid of the season games played against the other conference and regular season games only take place within their respective conference to relieve the game congestion.

  11. No one really cared about this until they tried to take it away, then people suddenly give a horse's rear end? No, People just want a reason to hate MLS for doing whatever they want to do. It's as simple as that.

  12. It's not about history or grass roots or culture of the sport. It's about money. USSF gets 50 percent of the gate for these matches and owns all of the streaming rights. It's all about the money.

  13. why would US soccer ever agree to this, thats hilarious. Whoever made this request or anyone who thought it was a good idea should be fired. it would hurt everyone involved with US soccer or the mls, probably including the people who made the request.

  14. Fire don garbage, he’s stunting the growth of the league at this point and only conceding to what the rich owners want. We’ve already established a fan base, we need to foster more competition and they need to pump more money into the soccer nation. Also open the amount of times teams can transfer players from second team to first. Also open the damn roster rules in general.

  15. Counter-arguments for MLS points:
    – Youth opportunities? MLS can very well change their own rules and regulations to allow MLS teams to promote players from their own developmental teams, and provide them said professional experience during this same tournament, league play, and other MLS participation tournaments.
    – Congested schedule? Stop creating additional games during playoffs. Don’t participate in exhibition tournaments such as Leagues cup.
    – Grow Soccer in US? Do a better job in marketing your product to the own markets in which they exist. Don’t put your televised league game behind a pay wall. Give away tickets to developmental youth soccer trams and leagues to grow interest in the sport, and maintain said interest.

    While were at it
. Don Garber should resign/step down from USSoccer Board of Directors to, as he is focused on growing MLS and their business, and not in line with USSoccer board of directors interest which is grow soccer in the US.

  16. US Soccer are just as bad if not worse than MLS. There should have long ago been a pathway to relegation. It would solve all the weak ownership groups that refuse to invest. The lack of investment is fine some owners cannot afford it and that is ok, just play a division lower.

  17. Tbh, I didn't understand the MLS argument of match congestion. They weren't anymore congested then any of the other leagues around the world. They would play on the weekends and occasionally during the midweek. You want your league to grow that's the level of competition the league needs. This is suppose to be a div 1 pro league, not a Sunday League in your local park. Increase the salary cap so that MLS teams have better depth to man manage the schedule better.

  18. All advanced football countries have this sorta competition when pro teams meet small teams they don’t always play their first team until when they meet a competitive opponents and that’s fine let’s the coaches decide like some body says in this video
