Back in the day, attendance to UNM men's soccer games would regularly break 4500+, to the full capacity of the soccer stadium. Soccer fans were welcome. We felt welcome to attend the Lobo soccer games. And the Lobos did well, they delivered. Nowadays, barely 150 people watch women's soccer games at the lobo soccer stadium, fans do not feel welcome, even the people checking tickets at the gates are very rude. They won't even allow you to go to your car during half time. I recently went to a home soccer game with my family to support the lady Lobos and the gate staff acted like they didn't want us. You cannot bring snacks you cannot bring your own water bottle you cannot bring umbrellas even though it is 2pm and sun is scorching hot on top of you with no shade in the stands. Yet we the fans still want to support the Lobos despite all these shortsighted "rules" that do not make any sense. And what a big shame that the men's soccer program, one of the most successful athletics in the school's history, which benefited so many student athletes, was dropped from UNM athletics, what a terrible decision, in the face of all the supporting Lobo fans. The administration had zero idea about the growing soccer culture and its future in the US. The number one game and sport around the world. With so much social and economical benefits. NM has a great soccer fan base and it is missing out on capitalizing on it for its student-athletes, its students, fans, and the greater community in Albuquerque, due to shortsighted decisions such as this by its administrators.
Soccer is the number one sport in the world. Are you kidding me?
cut sports = not having it
cut jobs in 2020 = wear a face mask and accept it.
Crooked administrators are to blame. New Mexico's low lifes strike again!
I’m sorry I’m a big Lobo fan but it makes me sick to see them do this to a great program. Goodness sake I didn’t know we had a hockey team. Hell no one goes to the softball games what about skiing I mean come on!!!! This is so disheartening to see this happen.
So sad
