You did it wrong he cuts it like a triangle. I have do those things before he had two cuts on each side you just cut and potentially destroy your boots. It a risk if you dont have the diligence for it.
I think he gets them “customized” and what I mean is he probably get them adjusted properly to where it’s comfortable and doesn’t rip…a lot of players actually get their boots tailored to their foot shape and small adjustments
He gets a fresh pair whenever he wants, and gets them broken in immediately via the steam machine they have. I doubt he even bothers with using the lighter after he cuts them.
I did that once on my old Vapor 12's and instead of burning the sides with a lighter, I asked my mom to stich the edges of the opening so that they would open even more. I did lose a bit of lockdown but it was more comfortable
