Carroll had shown nothing to suggest he was an elite player. He signed for Liverpool because Dalglish who was coach of Liverpool and had been out of the game for 20 years had an outdated way of looking at football so bought this player whose only ability was being tall.

    One journalist described Carroll games as like a dead cow being thrown from a medieval catapult at a castle. A useless object whose only purpose is body mass. He was one of the worst signings Liverpool have ever made.
