The greatest moment in US Soccer history, 20 years later (Full Story) | FOX SOCCER

20 years ago, on July 10, 1999, Brandi Chastain and the United States Women’s National Team captured the hearts of a nation when they beat China in the finals of the Women’s World Cup™. That game famously went to penalty kicks, with Chastain scoring the game winner — and following up with a celebration that became the stuff of legend. Two decades later, she relives that epic moment and tells the story of what happened to her famous sports bra, plus gives a heartfelt message to those she inspired around the world as an icon of women’s soccer.

  1. Oh, my God! The emotions of that! Like a lot of females said, the US women soccer paved the way for so many! Including mine, it made my love for soccer even more because of them! So thank you ladies

  2. Love this video! OMG, this is why I treasure the 99'ers and all they have done for USA SOCCER, WOMEN SPORTS and love of country!!!! True hero's, inspirational to all people! Humble, strong, confident, INSPIRATIONAL American Women!!! Brandi and Julie should coach the USWNT!!! ❤ 🇺🇸 ❤

  3. I was just a kid in an airport when this final was happening. They had it playing on every single TV available, flights were being delayed because of the penalty shootout, whole crowds of people were just stopped in their tracks watching it all.

Sports can bring the worst out of us, but they can also bring us together. I've watched every World Cup since, anyone that thinks this game isn't thrilling to watch is dead inside, IMO.

  4. Great team, great players, great memories! That was my introduction to the USWNT. I still have the ESPN magazine with that pic! Still following successive national teams to this day.

  5. Played mixed team soccer in Junior high with 3 girls on our team. Played in high school and the girls soccer team practiced on the fields with us, often we'd scrimmage or run drills together. We were often in the same bus travelling to games. The boys and girls soccer teams in our school attended each others post season games if we could. When this team in 1999 won, it made me so proud because all I could think of was how many of my sisters who played the game would be acknowledged in a new way… we cherished and respected girls soccer, that was never an issue, but now the world could see that the USA had a strong dominant women's team in the sport of soccer. I hope that the Women's National Team returns to this team's sentiments – its about the Team, its about the US and its about sport/soccer… Its not about ME, its not about politics or any one person's social agenda.

  6. So I still don't get it…a girl wins and instinctively rips her top off? When I win do I pull down my pants? Really, I don't get the connection. Obviously others don't either because it ended there.
