If America allocated resources towards Youth soccer that it does towards (American) football, basketball, and baseball, the US would be top 5 on the planet consistently.

Let's beat Iran so we can get out of the group, and then we can claim a few karats. To be the golden generation these guys must at least match the best ever USNMT performance, the QF from 2002. Otherwise, if we just assume that they will get there we will have an unpleasant surprise.
The Iranians will give absolutely everything given the internal and external geopolitical context. If USMNT beats Iran then I will truly believe that they can reach the final, because that would prove to me that they are men, not just some overgrown boys on a tourist visa.

MLS has to taken credit for this by introducing free talent based youth development academies, with foreign coaches teaching the American kids the correct way to train and play to America. This is why this is the most diverse USA team ever due to it being talent based and technically gifted due them being coached correctly as kid in a professional system. If you look at women’s soccer in the USA it struggles with diversity and technique because they still rely on the amateur pay to play travel teams system to develop young players meaning the coaching is not as good and excludes kids from low income families who can’t afford the high travel team fees. The USA would really become a threat when they abolish the pay to play system completely and allow kids of all economically backgrounds. Sadly like universal healthcare, Americans are too greedy to do the right thing.
