Two holding cms is critical here if you’re bombing the wb’s on – and like you say can still get overrun.
I prefer (at Sunday league level) telling the wide guys they’re not wb’s but attacking fbs – difference is just mentality and starting position (back 5 is our ‘base’, get forward as much as possible from there but still think of yourself as an fb rather than a wb and don’t get caught up the pitch and jogging back!)
Also sometimes a front two actually works better than a front 3 (which can be more spread out and can get isolated) and just letting two good forwards do their thing means you can add an extra man back to cm which is where most games are won and lost at this level.
Playing like this (as a 532) doesn’t sound sexy but can be really overpowered at pub league level
Good luck with the channel mate, loved you & Mike on boa.
Good info . Thanks
