Sports Minutes: Gavin Lee officially named Singapore Men’s National Team Head Coach

It’s official – 35-year-old Singaporean Gavin Lee has been named head coach of the Singapore Men’s National Team, just a week after guiding the Lions to historic Asian Cup qualification. Fresh off signing an 18-month deal that takes him through the 2026 Asean Championship and the 2027 Asian Cup, Gavin joins Sports Minutes to discuss his rise from interim to in-charge, from failed footballer to in-demand tactician, and from managing Tampines to taking on the biggest job in Singapore football.

  1. Papa mama playstation. Who are the mentors. Folks that are fans and never proper players or coaches. And if sinkieland accepts this means they accept mediocrity. One of their own yes but earn you stripes not fast tracking route

  2. Good quiet kid but not the man for the job . Need to earn his stripes. The issue is sinkie folks and management dont understand football. All wannabee fans . They can do this in their own backyard never abroad

  3. i don’t find it cool to label him as a “failed footballer”.

we can all aspire to be a footballer but never play professionally. that’s not a failure, but not a path for us.

  4. Its about time we have our own locally born and bred Head Coach for our National Team! Congrats Gavin Lee! Show our political elites that we do have talented Head Coaches that are not foreign imports that can do the job better than them.

  5. A great salute to his parents and wife. Going on a non standard route for the young today is amazing. Just look at the PSLE posting by the students and parents. Many are behind you. Great.
