  1. If you are to blame Vlatko for the current status of the USWNST, then you would be undermining two things:
    1. The obvious growth of the women's game around the world. Europe is becoming a powerhouse, with countries such as England, Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Italy and France joining the more established and former world cup winners Germany and Norway. South America also are becoming stronger with Colombia, Venezuela and Chile competing for a place in world football against Brazil. Even here in CONCACAF you see an old favorite, Canada becoming stronger, along with newcomers Costa Rica. And even though Mexico did not qualify for next summer's world cup, they'll be back. It isn't surprising that the USA would lose three straight matches. The first two away at England and Spain, away from the city morts of home and the security of home field advantage. Then losing to an old for, Germany at home. If this surprises you, then you haven't been paying attention to women's football.

    2. Vlatko took charge of an old and tired team, not to mention the fact that previous managers neglected to expand the pool of available players. They opted to cap players way into their late 30s and even a couple into their 40s because it was safe. Any knowledge manager will agree that you have to allow young players to gain experience in real match situations. Why not allow the younger batch to compete in the Olympics? We were embarrassed anyways with an old team. I would have rather see them lose with a young group of players so they would gain the experience necessary to be ready for the world cup next year. Now we have to face the fact that we may not win two major tournaments in succession. Still, we want to rely on old players for success. Please!

  2. Lisa have you been watching Lynn Williams play she is fast but not a scorer definitely not the best ball handling skills definitely the worst 1v1 skill of all the forwards

  3. I think the USWNT should just say goodbye to Mallory Pugh. Mal, you might be the best we have, but you can't make it to Australia, England or Spain, please just stay home, have a wonderful life. You can start preparing for 2027. I am a true, red, white and blue USWNT fan, and I've had enough.

  4. The excuses are not valid. The Spain B team had much less playing time on the pitch than its A team, but beat the USA A team. Head coach means everything to the team!!! He/she is responsible for training, tactics, inspiring, picking the players, positions, and formation for every match! I believe if the Spanish coach was given the opposite team (the USA players instead of the Spanish B team players), he will win instead of losing. For example, putting Horan in mid-field is a bad decision. She is an attacker. She neglects to challenge for ball, defend, or run at players. She is also neither good at passing, all are crucial responsibilities of a midfielder. Horan does little with any of that because she is a used to being a Forward. This weakens the mid field so much that other players have to do extra running on her behalf. When mid-field is broken, there is no ball to attack, and the defense is wide open. In my opinion, Vlatko doesn't pick the right players, put them in the correct positions and formation, or employ the right tactics. He also doesn't train his players well. They were sloppy like a B team instead of showing the caliber of a World Champion. Vlatko lost to Sweden, lost to Canada in a Cup, lost to England, now lose to the Spanish B team. Results speak for themselves, not excuses.

  5. I think it’s gone beyond a point where it would be disastrous to change coaches 10 months before a World Cup. Irrespective of whether he should or shouldn’t be replaced I doubt if there is much choice but to let it run it’s course. Unfortunately I don’t see USWNT winning the World Cup! While European countries are tweaking their final 11 with a plethora of talent on the bench , Vlatko still hasn’t got a final 11, the team is not cohesive in skills, talent and spirit ,it seems very disjointed. There may be some individual talents but as a team there is a distinct lack of connectivity between defence to midfield to forwards the game plan seems to be a very narrow minded get it to the forwards and then rely on individual talents to score a goal, which is fine against lower ranked teams where USWNT can score 9-0 etc but as soon as they play top 10 teams it’s not a guaranteed root to goal . I am predicting that Germany will win in November because if you were concerned about the England midfield , then you’ll definitely need tall shin pads for the likes of Oberdorf’s dirty tackles…. Fox might want some padded headwear!

  6. I want to know where Tobin Heath, Crystal press, Sam, and various members of the World Cup team that are missing and why are they missing? This young team is not qualified and we need to put the Old Pros back in. We also need to get rid of this coach because he's an indoor soccer coach not an outdoor soccer coach. Perfect example the Olympics, with a quality of a team like that what the heck was he doing? Losing to England like that, getting crushed by Spain like that. We need to restore the World Cup team and then add in young players. This clown got rid of the veterans and now he's bleeding them in. He doesn't know what he's doing

  7. Third comment: enough already with the pining. We just got beat by the Spanish second team. Every player on our team is super and we know this from watching NWSL. Every team deals with injuries and replacements. Enough with all the useless excuses. It’s up to the coach to get the team to play at its highest potential. We only see where we have weaknesses with hard fought games like the last 2.

  8. On one hand, these losses may be necessary. Teams that win all the time expect to win and become complacent. These two games emphasize the need to be more creative on offense and the dangers of high back lines and high positions of fullbacks without cover. Adjustments can be made. We have become predictable.

On the other, it would be nice to see more in game adjustments. We are clearly vulnerable to those quick counterattacks down the wings turning the whole team face to goal. Catching teams with a high line is a rudimentary strategy and will not work against good teams with thoughtful coaches like Wegman. The Spanish team was deadly accurate on long passes.

It’s pidly to think about whether Rodman had a goal or not. The question is who had the better game. Even if we had tied that game I would still be asking the same questions.

  9. Dear all soccer lovers, please keep loving soccer and our national team, including the coaches. They are doing a tremendous job. The thing is that the USWNT served as a role model to other nations around the world. many of them made unbelievably good improvements and advancements, such as Sweden, England, and Spain. The global quality in soccer is not that the USA team wins every single game. The quality is that at least 10 teams are unpredictable in the race for the world championship and that we still love and support our team regardless of where they end in such equal competition. Regarding coach Vlatko, I think that for our mentality, it would be much better to have a women as a head coach. Vlatko can move to successfully lead the men's team. I am a coach myself at the informal levels, and I can see that the motion "beat them" does not work anymore; players' safety should be the priority. Play as a team, do one-touch passing, do not pass the ball there where your teammates can be injured, try to keep a ball after a corner kick for at least 30-40 seconds, etc. Sending the ball from the corner into the box, even if the team scores, always causes more damage than benefits. I noticed that young players tend to be heroes. How could a 5.5 tall be a hero against a 6.0? Yes sometimes. The size matters as well. Please do not feel bad after losing a couple of games. Soccer is a game of mistakes as well, and the team which makes fewer mistakes usually wins. Again, let's keep loving and supporting our team and pray that the boys follow the girls' footsteps.

  10. There’s tooo many injuries within USWNT. Use these two lost as a motivation into the World Cup. The starters will be back and healthy.

  11. Why, he's got a slew of newcomers, a slew of injured gets, he took these friendlies to give the team a taste of international experience and see where the team is at. It gives the new players experiences in how to trave, how to play in a international setting. Just enjoy the match against better teams

  12. I don't like this team, I think that the players that should be there are not there, there is no strong attack, the defense is very fragile, Rose Lavelle is not playing well, if they do not improve soon, it is very likely that they will not get past the first round of the World Cup .

  13. The coach needs to go now today if not sooner. We need to find the best female coach in the USA or in the world it’s a great job and many would take it. But this coach has to go we need a new beginning a new start, before the world!

  14. Vlatko was brought in to destroy the regime of old… and he has been doing a phenomenal job failing our players by doing the same ol thing and doing nothing to have our players improve. Losing to Sweden and Canada in the Olympics should not have happened. And to that point, Australia almost came back on us in that game. Note that Carli and Rapine were in there to secure our win. When they were left out, we lost. Now are key players are hurt, and it shows. He needs to improve that back line. It is hurting us. Or switch to a formation I think would work… 31213. Girma or Dunn, then Beckie or Ertz, then Huerta or Ohara. Then stopper would be Ertz or Horan or Mewis. Then in the mid, Lavelle, Horan, Pugh, then above them Sophia Smith, and then Rapinoe, Morgan, and Marcario or Rodman. This way Smith can attack from either side while moving with those players up top. If we keep pressing, we will not allow Spain carve us up or even Germany. The England game did not worry me, but Spain was not a good showing. And their coach is an ahole, so he just got vindication with his players, but he probably put so much pressure on the A team, that is why the B team could excel. What did they have to lose. Vlatko should not be putting our team in a situation where we are not the dominant team. We have controlled teams with the fear that we could score at will. And now he just gave the world the ability to say, hey what do we have to fear. Bring in Laura Harvey…at least she LOVES to win, and you can see it in her team. Go Rose Lavelle!!!

  15. Excuses, excuses, and excuses… but they don't realize the fundamental problem with ussoccer: Players development. This is a systemic problem and not any individual problem. I can see the American mentality is not suitable to play soccer, maybe in the future, when they change their mentality but right now it is not working. In all their sports and activities I always heard them shout : " Come on, come on, hurry, hurry, faster, faster….:, this you have to be stronger and faster mentality, especially you see in American Football, is not working in soccer. Soccer you don't need to hustle and be in a hurry all the time, sometimes you have to be relaxed and in composure and under control, which is essential for you to develop a good technique that is fundamental to play soccer. Look how Spanish players are very comfortable and relaxed on the ball, it feels like the actions around them becoming so much slower for them to weave through. Another problem with US players is their soccer intelligence is much lower compared to players who live in nations with soccer culture. US players are less creative and they read the game much slower than players in another country. Their decision-making is not good compared to players around the world. The bottom line, US players are way more inferior in terms of technique and game intelligence.

  16. In the 2019 WC VS France Ellis ran 3 and even 4 forwards, allows great pressure. Vlatco's 2 forwards flies in the face of everything this USWNT has been about for 30 years. The Time of possession, scoring, and set pieces have been in steady decline since he took over. NOT GOOD.

  17. you're all becoming a "Vlatko apologist" . Vlatko Soccer IQ is that of a High School Soccer coach, at best. Look at his choice of Horan in the middle. She is very lazy when it comes to defense. The second Spain goal began with her not challenging her player, who was then able to send the ball forward to set up the goal. stop blaming the defense!! Grooming someone like Rodman for a midfielder position instead of Horan would have been the smarter choice.

  18. Other teams deal with problems as well but still manage to play a cohesive game. The uswnt are lost on the field, any top team can easily break them down. There's way too many excuses for Vlatko's incompetence, even with all the vets the team underperformed…who really thinks he's gonna have the answers for the WC? Lol

  19. All you arm chair managers, these r exhibition matches. This is the time to try new players and tinker with the team. Come February March they will be focused and ready to go

  20. I whole heartedly disagree .. VL is failing us, period. the talent is there, he is losing the players, over coaching, not being able to guide and change setup and players during a game, he plays the same game plan, is too rigid. Where is the players passion, he does not inspire, maybe you will admit it after we lose the WC, FIRE THE COACH NOW.

  21. They should select San Diego Wave coach Casey Stoney as the USWNT coach. She managed to lead a newcomer team in the league to the NWSL playoffs that start this coming Sunday. In a normal world, Vlatko is history, fired with these results.

  22. The passing was horrendous vs Spain that can only be blamed onn the coach and training. We wrnt 100% as a team for this games not even at 90% with our players missing games but still I didn't see the sense of urgency vs Spain like we saw vs England that also can only be blamed on the coach.

  23. The second goal was avoidable if Alana Cook had marked the Spaniard player. Cook is a lousy defender who does not have the guts or the desire to win. She is sabotaging the team.

  24. It's not that the other European teams are catching up with the USA. It's rather that we have a soft coaching staff that let players dictate the training that they want. Of course, they are not going to select Dawn Scott's physical preparation. The players look fat and therefore slow. With these defeats, they may have lost a bunch of points and they may not the first on the FIFA ranking for the first time in thirteen years.

  25. Catarina Macario barely settled into this team or did anything remotely outstanding against a serious opponent, so I don't see why we keep bringing her up as some major missing piece! Yes she has tremendous potential, but in all the games I watched her play against relatively weak opponents I didn't see anything above and beyond what Sofia Smith & Rodman can do.
