Being a Quakes fan I would love nothing more than seeing Wondo start but I've seen him play a lot and he is more of that player that you put in when you need a last minute goal. I would consider Wondo more of a super sub for the USA
jozy, 30 games with sunderland, 1 goal the whole season, #respect
Yes very worried, since 2011 we should have had the pieces in place and the farewell games before the "cup" we should have been able to all say in the same breath we are ready. Now 12 days before the start of the cup and we are still trying to figure things out. Ahhh! Mr Churchill you were so right "he who fails to plan-plans to fail"……….
The success of our soccer in the hands of a coach who was a failure where ever he went…
Johannsson Dempsey
Bradley
Bedoya Jones
Beckerman
I'm so worried about the baggage retrieval system they've got at Heathrow…
Jermaine Jones on the right? Are you shittin me?
The only people worrying are the people who were already worrying. Everyone else is past that. The sun fills the whole sky and faces are bright and shiny. I don't know how they will do. I think they need some luck, but, hey, they may get it..
I was worried before that game.
LOVE discussions like this. You guys could get the same amount of views on a 30min version of this.
This team works best with a 4-2-3-1/4-4-2 hybrid with Altidore up top, Dempsey in behind him, and Bradley and Jones in as withdrawn central midfielders. After that, put Fabian Johnson on wide left and Zusi wide right. This has been the most successful formula for the US. We should be concentrating on getting that starting XI in rhythm heading into the World Cup, not experimenting with a stupid diamond 4-4-2. I'm really getting uncomfortable with Klinsi's choices right now.
http://lineupbuilder.com/?sk=32j8 My US Starting XI. This has been the formation that has been the most successful for us. Why are we still experimenting?
Why not, Bradley at CDM, Clint at CAM, and Jozy n Wondo up front? #whynot #BrazilBound
Put Fabian Johnson LW in the Diamond formation, Zusi over Jones on RW.
I would really like to see Bradley and Beckerman in the center with Zusi on the right and Diskerud on the left. This permutation has never been tried and the chemistry would really work out well. Also up top should start with Altidore and Dempsey with a 60th minute sub of Altidore for Wondo or Aron to get a last minute assist or even a goal.
USA looked slow, I think Mexico gives USA a gift by injuring Cristiano in their build up game slowing him down so USA beat Portugal 2-1 in game 2 of the World Cup run.
Aren't these roster/formation issues things that should have been worked out over the past few years. Yet here we are a couple of games out from the WC and the US is playing a relatively new formation with players who have not played together before. These issues are things that should have been ironed out a long time ago, not a few weeks before group stage. You want to know why I am worried for the world cup? Maybe because outside of Dempsey, Bradley and Howard, seemingly every position on the field is up for grabs.
Luckily most countries also have to deal with the building of the chemistry between their national players as we are, hopefully our guys can find their groove in just over 2 weeks time now. I was calling Beckerman in the opening moments of this video and Simon seems interested at the prospect as well. I think Michael Bradley and Beckerman make a great pairing. When they play together you see a lot of chatter going on between them and they seem to gang up on the opposition sort of like the bash brothers from the Mighty Ducks. That chemistry and trust between the links in the midfield is huge and I believe would pay off significantly if implemented. If Jozy felt like the midfield was being held down and saw more ball movement forward then he would shine where he does best, out front and in the face of the opposition's goalie. Soccer isn't only about reaction, it's about understanding and implementing your role on the field and trusting the other guys on the team to manage their role. Securing that diamond and getting the ball to Jozy is only going to work against the world's biggest teams if the Americans can implement that style of play well.
I think we have a great team here. They just need some practice playing together instead of against each other. I would like to know some more about the three teams they are facing. Only thing I know are the countries and Ronaldo plays for Portugal.
Start Beckerman as the D Mid. Jones gives the ball up doesn't keep possession. Like u said the diamond formation is chosen because Klinsmann wants possession of the ball. Beckerman makes good choice of passes and very good vision
If the US had Alonso, he would be great @ clearing up mdifield 50/50s….. If only, if only.
Playing against Germany and Portugal you know that the team will have to play counterattack. In that scenario there is no other player in the team that can give you the speed and the ability to play the ball well with spaces ahead than Jozy Altidore. Also, I think that Klinsmann should forget a little about the diamond formation and make Dempsey take a step back into midfield. Clint is a good scorer, but he is even better with the ball in his feet. You would prefer him generating spaces and opportunities than to have him isolated in the attack.
Jones is way to sloppy and gives away the ball. Beckerman is a much better passer and can build from the back, he needs to start.
The inside-out fullbacks i dont understand. But I'd like to see cameron on the right with Gonzales and Besler and Johnson on the left. Makes sense as Cameron plays there for stoke. The midfield looked fine to me but Clint Dempsey was definitely the missing puzzle piece. I'd say give Johannson a chance to play that similar role because he's good on the ball and seems to have some speed. Against Ronaldo though I would play Jones on the right of the diamond to help Cameron/Johnson with him.
Shouldn't we see more of Julian green? So he can be ready at the senior level of play? #BrazilBound
