Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Inter Milan: Extended Highlights | UCL on CBS Sports

After scoring three first half goals against Real Madrid last week, Shakhtar Donetsk was unable to muster any real offensive threat against Inter Milan in the first half. Inter Milan had its opportunities, both Nicolò Barella and Romelu Lukaku rattled the woodwork in the first however they could not find the back of the net.

In the 15’ Shakhtar suffered a blow to their attack when center forward Dentinho limped off the field and Taison, who normally finds himself as a left winger, was subbed on to replace Dentinho.
It was a fairly evenly matched second half as well. In the 54’ Inter Milan had the perfect goal scoring opportunity, off of the initial shot the keeper deflected it right to the feet of Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martínez who shanked the shot left of the net missing what could have been the best opportunity of the game.

Neither team would have another great opportunity and would finish in a tough 0-0 draw. Inter Milan had its opportunities and statistically dominated the game, outshooting Shakhtar 10 to 3 and out possessing Shakhtar 57 to 43. However Shakhtar’s defense held up when needed and Inter Milan could not take advantage of the opportunities and walk away with their second draw in group stage action.

  1. 5:10 *Vidal touches the referee*

Media & everyone else: Nah, that’s normal, it’s nothing.

    *Aguero touches referee*
Media & everyone else: OMG that’s SEXIST 😱. He should be punish, he needs to apologize.
    😏

  2. The refereeing is so tilted in favor of the offense: at 1:03 he pulls back on the defender's shoulders TWICE, obviously gaining an advantage, but no call. If an attacker is even breathed on in the penalty area a penalty is given.

  3. Inter has to finish. Period. I have no hair left to pull out nor nails to bite or nerves to spare. It has become a pattern with Conte in not beating teams you have to beat, as well as going for goal instead of making the obvious pass amongst and between the players. Despite the caliber of talent I do not see much trust or consistent play from. I don't know if it's Conte tinkering and messing with the fluidity and play and messing with chemistry or motivation or what but Inter always stalls like this under him. Pissed away the Scudetto at the end last year, and picked back up right where we've left off with more talent. Flirting with brilliance but patience wearing thinner and thinner.

  4. inter is rapidly amplifying a desirable tactical cohesion and shaping identity integral to control the midfield to generate attacking and pressing critically when are off the ball, the central holding pair of vidal-borozovich shields the deep line or in a double pivot form with Barellas alternating between the central areas to ignite fine movements as a lying playmaker allows their wingers operating open runs with more freedom, generating spaces for interaction of passing in the midfield and provides enough mobility for Martinez-lukaku dazzling partnership boasting eager change of pace to combine delicate passing trigs, igniting quick runs to win spaces with aim of exploiting penetration to cause gap over backlines as Martinez spark creativity with holding on the ball and Lukalu triggering neat interplay through his dynamic turn of direction, deft control and fluid one be one attribute when bracing to forward play but sometimes they lack pure execution, the impact of Erikson as a lying creative passer amplify more efficient sustaining possession which helps their deeper player monitoring the open spaces being protected when pressing in the holding areas like Vidal dropping little deeper, Borozovich rotating over the midfield and Barellas drifts over the flanks in the pragmatic holding-change of speed style in the way balances their pressing task and Conte has transformed this team into more productively high transition attacking unit inspired by crafty combinations, sharpness and pace

  5. Shakhtar has no balls against tough playing treams. Inter rude, tough, provocative, angry style intimidates Brazilian players. Another thing in the first episode Lukaku was really pulling on defender and should have gotten yellow card.

  6. Inter should get a penalty. There is no way that the defender didn't foul to drag Lukaku down to the ground. Comparing to the first half, Inter's second-half performance is very bad. Don't understand why Conte doesn't play Eriksen when he wants the long ball tactics. Again, Conte should have made subs before 70'. Players need time to perform. Keeping Young at 84' almost costs us the game. Though Conte finally makes the right call about not playing Kolarov as CB.
