Sevilla scored twice in the first half and dominated Roma, 2-0, on Thursday in the Europa League round of 16 to advance to the quarterfinals. In a match that was just one leg due to the inability to play a first leg in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was the Spanish side that thoroughly outplayed the Italian side in Germany. Sevilla hit the crossbar in the first half but continued attacking as Sergio Reguilon and Youssef En-Nesryi scored the goals for Julen Lopetegui’s side.
The victory sends Sevilla into the last eight where they will play the winner of Wolverhampton and Olympiacos. Roma is eliminated from the competition and will return to Europa League play next season after qualifying thanks to its fifth-place finish in Series A.
