But seriously, this whole money grab of churning out jerseys factory style, year after year, in various colors – this all has to stop. It just cheapens the identity of the team. I grew up watching and loving Bruce Lee movies and remember the first time I listened to Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child and All Along the Watch Towers at my friend's house, how blown away I was. But I'm not going to buy a red dragon or purple haze jersey. That has NOTHING to do with the Seattle Sounders other than them simply having lived in the same city for a time. Teams can honor the history and heritage of famous and contributing members of society without wanting to turn it into their golden calf for the year. If you want a purple jersey, buy a damn Orlando jersey. Want red? There's a good number to choose from. However, there doesn't seem to be a shortage of consumers forking over the cash for the yearly jersey (those are an owner's most valued customers after all) so sadly I don't see an end coming anytime soon. What's next year, a blue alternate jersey to honor Nirvana's "Nevermind" album?
Can't tell what's weirder, Seattle in red kits, or RSL with their 3rd straight comeback effort…
