Saudi Arabia and Mexico faced off in their third matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In the first half both teams struggled to score, but Mexico would come alive in the second half. Henry Martin scored in the 47th, and minutes later Luis Chavez sank a PK to give Mexico a 2-0 lead. Mexico was now tied with Poland in terms of goal differential. This would change when Saudi Arabia scored in stoppage time by way of Salem Al Dawsari in the 90’ +5’. Mexico would win 2-1 but were eliminated from the World Cup.

What was your favorite moment from the game?
Mexico was eliminated not just by goal difference, but by yellow cards. Mexico had 7 and Poland 4. Prior to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mexico hasn't been eliminated on group stage since the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina in which Mexico lost all 3 games. The 1986 FIFA World Cup, Mexico was host and advanced up to quarterfinals, its major world cup advance to date. Since 1994, Mexico only advanced up to the Round of 16.
