Rui Costa v England, 2004: 60 Great UEFA Goals

Rui Costa scored one of the sensational goals of UEFA EURO 2004 in extra time in Portugal’s quarter-final against England. The playmaker picked up the ball near halfway and moved to the edge of England’s penalty area before launching a stunning strike past David James.

  1. 2004 – 2006 were Portugal's glory years. They had a team which should have won both the Euros and World Cup. The 2002 squad at Japan/South Korea was quite solid too. Shocking that they didn't make it out of the group stages.

  2. scolari ruined this player when he was so ready to give a lot for portugal, rui costa was and will always be one of the best players to wear the number 10 in football's history..

  3. I was 15 at the time. This summer was truly the best time Portugal lived in a while. Football had united a nation like never before, every single house had the Portuguese flag in the window, we were true brothers in something that far transcended football as a sport. After that everything went south. I'm sad that we are going through such a bad time, but I've seen what we can do together and I'll always be proud of my country. One of the happiest times of my life.
