That's what you do kick the ball out if your in doubt it's better than getting caught in possession. The goal keeper did what good if he never he might have messed it up .
I HIGHLY doubt that the reason for kicking it out as a corner was "mainly" because of fear of throw in. It most likely was the only safe option as the opponment blocked the path to a throw in.

If you can throw in that long then it’s better than corner kick..i mean passing with your hand is more accurate than kicking..that’s why in my opinion gk made the right decision..😂
