I hate Real Madrid with a passion (especially after this season with all their whining and MAGA-tactics) but calling them fallen giants because of one season of three second places and an admittedly weak UCL campaign is absurd. Milan, ManU, and Chelsea on the other hand have all been consistently mid to bad for several seasons now.
Milan needs only one piece. It is the one piece they have been missing for the last three years. A true #8, box to box, defensive midfielder. One who can also provide the foundation on the offensive side would be ideal but having that rock solid defensive midfielder is the only thing Milan is missing.
Real Madrid shouldn't be named alongside these teams. One bad season doesn't make you a fallen giant. Besides, Madrid's season only looks this bad because of their own lofty standards. Getting knocked out in the quarter finals of the UCL as defending champions and finishing 2nd in la liga as defending champions wouldn't look bad on anyother team but Real Madrid.

Real Madrid needs a retool. A rebuild is different. For a rebuild, think of Manchester United and Tottenham.
