Im positive that if Leverkusen hadn’t played the EL final that early and had it later on like the CL final they would have succeeded. They were already exhausted because of the long season, but having to play two finals in the same week is just too much for the squad depth given that Africa cup was in the middle of the season as well. Additionally letting the back up goalie play wasn’t the best decision either.

The reason leverkusen lost the game is down to Xabi. His selection and formation for that game was wrong..
He had too many defenders, no bodies in midfield and had forwards that couldn't hold the ball to allow the mid to link up.
There was too much space between the defenders and the forwards a d the ball kept being intercepted when they tried to play from the back.
He tried to fix it by introducing boniface but took him forever to rectify the midfielder that was lacking bodies.
