there's no urgency placed on improving the competitiveness & fairness of the game.
still dragging their feet on implementing technology, which could have avoided this sort of situation. and still dragging their feet on implementing club salary caps. instead of the same 5 teams playing in the finals.
3 things about the Bayern offside call.
1. Most importantly, It was definitely the wrong call. Both were played onside.
That being said..
2. Had the whistle never been blown, Madrid would’ve continued defending and we can all agree that Lunin would’ve A. Attempted a save and B. Most likely would’ve saved it.
And
3. This is the overlooked/under realized aspect. If you watch the full play in live time, it feels as if the ball was in the air just long enough that the linesman felt the play could be whistled dead and raise his flag.
If the ball stayed much lower I really believe he would’ve never stopped the play and let it go. And that, is what made his decision to stop the play. Ball was “out of reach” just long enough.
Basically, enough time had passed from the ball being headed away to the next time is was touched.
Just my opinion.
Again tho, had the play been allowed to continue and had it been reviewed, (and Lunin/defense failed to keep it out) it would be a goal.
