With a crucial game against Atletico Madrid coming up, it is perplexing why Ancelotti did not make substitutions earlier in the game to rest key players like Fede Valverde and bring in fresher options like Luka Modric for Ceballos and Arda Guler for Bellingham. This would have not only given them a break but also allowed for fresh players who are capable of winning matches to take the field. It is important for players to be rotated, especially with such an important game on the horizon against their rivals. However, Ancelotti's reliance on Fede and Jude for 90 minutes yesterday meant that they were already tired and may not perform at their best ability next week against Atletico Madrid, as it will be their third game in a row. Resting Rudiger last night and playing Alaba and Asencio instead would have been a better decision for Ancelotti, as it leaves questions about how he will select his defense next week after missing this opportunity to rotate players. In essence, Carlo Ancelotti's weak spot as a coach is his inability to effectively manage his team both during games and when considering player rotations for future matches.
