  1. I think stating it's a bombshell is a tad over-theatrical! It's disappointing, incorrect, shocking, embarrassing, and wrong, sure. A dark cloud over the women's football team. Yup, that's a fair point. A small one that it is. The Canadian squad should be sanctioned somehow; I'll give you that one, too! The biggest story going into the games is more like a slow news day for everybody else, save good folks actually involved in women's football. Again, that's a bit lame, I would suggest.
The two people who perpetrated this egregious act have been sent home. My first thought was, who's paying for their flight home? The Canadian head coach recused herself for the first game. How gracious of her!
Mr. Heroux, Here's the thing, and I say this with the greatest respect: You're trying too hard, man! It's a story, sure. It's not the end of the Olympics as we know it, nor will the women's team disintegrate into dust over this.
The Olympics has always been littered with scandal after scandal. This isn't new or surprising. Let us play on!

  2. As q Canadian, forfeit this match!!! She is the coach, Cheater Cheater Cheater…Fire fire fire!!!!! Maybe Canada should fly our Flag on opening ceremonies with a drone!!!

  3. If this is true, fifa needs to suspend team canada.. i cant believe it to this day, but eevery action has consequences. come back home, no one cares about your fake medals..

  4. Spying what?? New Zealand don’t even care about football! And what’s to film?? The coach making the players go around in circles!! THERE ARE BIGGER THINGS HAPPENING IN FOOTBALL THAG NEED TO BE LOOKED INTO THIS IS SO CHEESE….SHAME AT FIFA!

  5. French are jumping on the Canadians because who are we to think we deserve to be in the world of soccer. We should just stick to hockey where we belong. The French media can be focusing on more important things.

  6. Time to fire all coaching staff right after the Olympics and replace them all! The amazing athletes on this team deserve better and the Canadian federation needs to pay for better coaching.

  7. No other choice but for the head coach to step down, Canada is trying to distract with the offer to sit out one game, anything without the head coach removal will be further tainted

  8. Canadians are always on their high horse when others are caught cheating but they cheat all the time….remember ben johnson? Time to get off your high horse.

  9. Everyone thinks Canadians are so nice and polite. I lived there for 44 years and I know first hand that Canadians are as screwed up, ignorant, angry, mean, and crooked as anyone else. The world has changed. The ‘nice’ Canada is dead.

  10. They should never coach a game for Canada again. They have embarrassed our country . I don’t care if the girls win 5-0 every game this Olympics it won’t mean anything on the world stage, this is a stain. No games have even been played yet

If they aren’t fired before the tournament starts then the committee chairman needs to be fired!!

Everyone on the staff MUST GO

  11. Not sure why this even matters, first it was not the team; not the team…and are there not advance scouts in soccer…there is in pro ball…, I repeat not the team…. explain the issue, why would it be so secretive????? ***Soccer opponents gather as much information as possible about the opposing team. This can include things like game footage, statistics, and scouting reports. Teams can also attend games in person or watch online to get a sense of the opposing team's style of play and key players. How they did it may be questionable it is not illegal.

  12. Priestman should be gone as well…there is no way she didn't know. What would two assistant coaches do on their own with whatever Intel they gathered? When she was asked point blank if she knew about it, she refused to answer, instead offering up a large order of word salad to deflect. She and the COC have embarrassed themselves, the entire Olympic team, and Canadians in general. I feel sorry for all the other Olympic team members…their experience has been sullied.
