Hello and welcome back to the Lowdown where today Dougie Critchley and Michael McCubbin are joined by Sky Sports’ Senior Football Journalist Pete Smith to discuss Liverpool’s excellent start to the season and the futures of their out of contract superstars.

The Reds find themselves in the unique position of several of their best players, namely Mo Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, being out of contract at the same time, meaning they could all leave for free this summer.

If that is the case, they’ll need to sign some quality replacements and today we discuss whether Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise or Real Madrid’s Rodrygo could replace Salah’s extraordinary output? If Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni or Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba could step in for Van Dijk? And finally whether Spurs’ Pedro Porro or Germany superstar Joshua Kimmich would be best suited to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role?

  1. 🇨🇳 🇷🇺 🇮🇷 🇰🇵 🇲🇳 🇱🇦 🇰🇭 🇲🇲 🇮🇳 🇧🇹 🇧🇳 🇮🇩 🇹🇱 🇵🇬 🇰🇿 🇰🇬 🇺🇿 🇹🇲 🇹🇯 🇦🇫 🇦🇲 🇦🇿 🇸🇾 🇱🇧 🇵🇸 🇶🇦 🇾🇪 🇸🇩 🇪🇷 🇩🇯 🇸🇴 🇲🇬 🇿🇦 🇱🇸 🇸🇿 🇲🇿 🇲🇼 🇿🇲 🇿🇼 🇦🇴 🇨🇩 🇨🇬 🇨🇫 🇬🇦 🇬🇶 🇸🇹 🇱🇷 🇸🇱 🇬🇳 🇬🇼 🇩🇿 🇱🇾 🇪🇭 🇲🇷 🇲🇱 🇧🇫 🇳🇪 🇹🇩 🇧🇾 🇷🇸 🇧🇷 🇵🇾 🇧🇴 🇸🇷 🇬🇾 🇻🇪 🇳🇮 🇭🇳 🇸🇻 🇬🇹 🇨🇺 🇭🇹

  2. To say the standard of game is better now to the 00's is only true in the sense of skills and training. The enjoyment of games then was higher due to there being so much less nonsense with VAR and player diving, faking and 'dark arts' that soils the game for many fans. It's not as objective as you claimed, and that undertow of dissatisfaction needs to be recognized more by the media. No shade on the argument for Salah, he's up there with the very best, but stop playing to a young-only audience with some of these ridiculous statements.

  3. Trent is gone as FSG doesn't want to pay Salah-level wages. Salah won't take the pay cut, he is gone. Virgil will stay and take a reduced two-year contract. Surprizes is I think Andy Robertson will be available as hill will be replaced in the summer. LFC will win the title and give the club room to leave the past behind them. Wages are FSG's mantra. Not sentimentality.

  4. The Salah situation is so frustrating. He's like Messi and Ronaldo in terms of fitness whilst playing UNDER KLOPP!!! It's INSANE how fit and reliable he is. He doesn't get injured and under Slott it's SO much easier on him. I have ZERO doubts that he will be able to perform within 85% of what he's doing now in 3-4 years time. Give him 3 years at the same wage he's on now or 4 years at a bit less but front load it because I PROMISE you we could STILL get £40m out of Saudi/Whoever in the final year of either contract and that will in effect pay for the wages over that period so we can effectively KEEP him for free instead of LOSE him for free.

  5. You mentioned Porro as underrated and the other guy starts underrating him. Guy mentions Porro's defensive problems from a game 2 seasons ago when we sacked Conte and Stellini used a back 4 FOR THE FIRST TIME. Why is it so hard to admit you don't know a lot about certain subjects? Embarrassing

  6. No one was realistic tbh. Rodrygo or olise are not for sell. I would love kimmich. Top 6 clubs don't go to another top 6. Bastoni would be perfect but Italian don't leave their club.

  7. Some of the analysis is getting so bad "Liverpool will have to spend £100 million to replace Salah"… when do they ever do that and which right wingers are even worth over 100M? Saka, Yamal, Rodrygo? none of them are going to Liverpool.

  8. Surely a rebuild episode of Man City’s team is more needed because Liverpool already have a ready made replacement for Trent in Bradley, VVD is still at the top of his game and will not leave and it’s probably the same with salah so what is the point of this episode, City quite literally have finished players like walker
