Paul Merson v Matt Le Tissier – Penalty Shootout – The Fantasy Football Club

The Fantasy Football Club’s very own Paul Merson is ready for another challenge, and this time he has his work cut out for him.

He’s taking on penalty KING Matt Le Tissier in a penalty shootout, with Rob Green the man they have to beat. Can Merse beat his Soccer Saturday mate?

  1. Also notice how neutral
Matt's body is, he's literally up-rite when he strikes the ball. Gives little away to the keeper. Most keepers guess and move before the strike, Matt just slips the ball opposite, or if it's tight, squeezes the ball wider..

Based on what Matt said earlier, he clarified that all his penalties were on target, not one wide of the mark. That's some accuracy under pressure..

  2. Interesting listening to Rob Green and the advice that is given. Basically from top down, managers and coaches think a shoot out is a lottery. Le Tiss doesn't neither to foriegn keepers. They far more regularly stay on their feet and watch the ball. In a soot out you have 2nd to 5th choise pen takers taking pens. at leat one of those is going to be too close to the keeper. If you dive out of the way you have no chance.

  3. I lived 3 doors up from Le God’s parents as a kid here in Guernsey.
It’s such a different atmosphere over here. He’d be mobbed in the UK but here he was just left alone.
I also worked up the airport and again, any time he’d come through he was largely just left alone.
Fantastic player, one of the best and very proud that he’s a Guernseyman.

  4. I was a good footballer, but I couldn’t take penalties. I would feel dizzy, anxious and the goal would suddenly shrink. It’s a terrible feeling.

  5. Because the England managers were too arrogant and ignorant and kept persistantly going with the players who were rubbish this man was quality and I suggest those who missed penalties in the euro last year with all that silly stop start jumping around look at matts penalties this is how you should take a pen

  6. Matt is far too smart for the soccer establishment – I suggest they were apprehensive of him – Of course the world runs of fear and Matt does not display 'fear' – is confident and assured in his play and when speaking – a very organised mind!
