It’s important for younger players to learn the benefits of movement both before and after they pass the ball. Typically it is harder for players to understand and perform the movement after they have made a pass. Use this pass and move drill to help them get into the habit of moving into space after they pass.
This drill can be used in any shape, and any distance between the cones. The focus of the drill is to have one less player than cones (5 payers to 6 cones for example). The player will pass to a teammate and then move to the free cone. There is a second progression with adding a one-two/wall pass before moving to free cone.

Hi, this isn't specifically related to this drill, but I see that a few coaches comment here, if any of you have a forum you'd recommend as a better place, I'm all ears. A girl I coach (almost 12yo) is keen to go and start playing with the U16s. I'm more than happy for her to go and take on the challenge. Physically she is definitely up to it, I think she could even compete with U18s. Technically, though.. I'm not convinced it's right. She's a good player, but passes almost exclusively with the right and often a semi-laces/outside of the foot sort of pass, which doesn't have much accuracy. I'm getting conflicting interests from the club, parents from our team, coach of the U16 and her, but would just like to do what's best for her development. But I'm not an expert. Any opinions? There's nothing to say that her technique will improve more if she stays with us, although she will have more time on the ball to be able to use better technique…
π― Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:01 π Young players benefit from a pass and move drill in soccer, promoting teamwork and movement.
00:32 β½ Encourage accurate passing, communication, and speed of play in the drill.
01:02 π Progress the drill with one-twos or wall passes to enhance player awareness.
01:17 π Players should move to the free cone, not the one they previously left during the drill.
01:46 π Customize the drill setup to suit your team and have fun with it.
