New York Derby: Fans in Blue and Red

Is New York red or blue? That’s the bragging right at stake in MLS’ only current intra-city rivalry. In 2015, expansion side NYCFC presented a new challenge for the long-standing New York Red Bulls, who won all three matches last season. Fans of both teams reflect the metro area itself, with a wide array of personalities and connections their favorite club. It’s a new rivalry, but one with plenty of layers already.

The teams meet for the second time in 2016 on Sunday, July 3 at Yankee Stadium (12 pm ET, ESPN). The New York Red Bulls defeated NYCFC 7-0 in the first match-up this season (this video was shot before the first match this season).

  1. Beautiful facilities, but the wrong team name, the wrong city and the wrong state. They are the New Jersey Red Bulls 🐂, and they physically play their matches at Red Bull 🐂 Arena, physically located in the town of Harrison, Hudson County, New Jersey.

  2. It doesn't matter how both clubs formed and how they rivalry may appear fabricated. Manchester United were a bunch of railway workers and City were a school. It just needs a bit of time to get a bit of history under your belt. And, really, to be playing in the same league. Otherwise it's a little bit pointless. And for more Americans to realise just how exciting soccer can be. Imagine if you were both playing for the title? That would be awesome, right?

  3. I think the guy att 3:39 gives the most fair and accurate descripation of new York red bulls.

The red bull teams across the globe excist soley to promote the energydrink red bull. Discusting!

  4. How can NYRB fans call 'plastic' to other supporters when they follow a team like that. They should not even be allowed in a serious profesional football league. Why don't they make a league of their own, where they can play against the Miami Coca-Colas, the San Francisco Burger Kings, or the New Orleans Play Stations.

  5. Red Bull is a NO GO,

Unimportant if it is Football (US translation Soccer) or Ice Hockey.

Zero traditon, zero real fans only event fans. This is plastic this is trash.

  6. I’m sorry, but the Red Bulls is another fake team that has the “New York” name.

Just like the Jets and just like the Giants, they call themselves “New York” but their stadiums are in Jersey.

Change the fucking name, you’re not New Yorkers if your team is located in Jersey you lazy dicks. It’s common knowledge and awareness, not rocket science.
