That guy should know better. In Maradonas time only the league champions could participate in the former ucl. But Maradona won the uefa cup which was as hard to win as todays ucl because all the 2nd-4th rated teams played there like Real, Man U, Bayern, Milan, Inter etc. With the rules Maradona had, Messi would have 3 Ucls less
Some people will never admit the true greatness of Messi due to their emotional bias towards other players. So they will look for all kind of silly excuses to downplay his achievements. Nobody in the history of football has played under such ridicilously high expactations since he was 18. Not only Messi met those expactations, but he even surpassed them. What he did during his career was superhuman, impossible. He is not only the greatest footballer, but also the greatest athlete.

What he is saying here is Messi was the best for a longer time than Diego, but yet Diego was alone at the table for how he carried the team in 86 and how he brought emotion with his ruthless non sense and yet contagious vibes. Esto funciona asi, Maradona pinto los mejores 3 cuadros de la historia, Messi del 4 al 20.
Eso no le quita meritos a Messi, pero en su prime (pico de rendimiento) Maradona fue mejor y en una época mucho mas dificil.
Otro aspecto importante Maradona a los 16 años ya era el mejor jugador del mundo y lo que jugo en Argentinos Juniors y Boca no lo vi nunca.
Y del 86 al 89 tambien fue el mejor y con diferencia.
Durante todos esos años al menos 8 balones de oro debió ganar…. pero en ese momento no se entregaban balones de oro a los extranjeros.
Por ultimo la copa América no tenia ninguna importancia en la epoca de Maradona solo se utilizaba como entrenamiento y prueba de jugadores en la selección previo a los mundiales.
Y Messi es el segundo mejor jugador que vi en mi vida y cerca de Maradona, ambos separados por mucho con el tercero…
