  1. Another week where Wiebe reads the script he's been given by PRO/MLS. Love how he didn't look at the non-call against Gregersen for a foul in the box in the final minutes. Great job with the league propaganda!

  2. People assume the AR has "the perfect angle" for an offside – usually not! They have to keep up with the players, track movement in real time, and ALSO see the moment when the ball is kicked to the offside player – literally having to look in two places at once – often with players moving in and out of the way. It's actually incredibly hard for an AR to judge a close offside. That's WHY we have VAR, and why the AR should leave the flag down unless an offside is 100% ironclad to both let VAR do its job and to properly give the benefit of the doubt to the goalscorer (which used to be the guidance before VAR).

  3. You'd like to see the flag stay down? So you think that the AR, who has a much better view than you, should not make a call of an offense that he clearly sees?

  4. C’mon, Wiebe. Unless the grounds crew was drunk when they mowed the grass, Suarez was clearly and obviously offside. Likewise with the STL goal. It’s not the feet but any part of the attacker that can legally score. That means shoulder for both Suarez and Klauss.

  5. Ok, I wont argue with the application of the law on the first offside…. i just think the law is absolutely stupid. I think it should be based on clear change of direction or pace.

  6. If I'm hearing him right, sounds like MLS needs to get Weibe some virtual lines for offside review!

Also does no one talk about the Miami neck pinch?

  7. The fun bit is that if the owners would put up the money for it, the only offsides call to actually cover from this episode is the the Atl-Ner one.
But owners won't pony up the money for the cameras needed for automated offsides or goal line tech.

  8. Not going to look at the Rev's handball in the box that mysteriously wasn't reviewed? The decision that the poorly attempted clearance somehow wasn't deliberate was bad enough, but not even looking at a ball in the box clanging off the hand is also pretty bad. Maybe its natural position or whatever, but surely worth a review.

  9. That Nashville elbow was totally deliberate. He knew exactly what he was doing and caught him in the throat. The ball was on the he It doesn’t take a lot of force to take someone down with that. That ball was also on the ground, so no reason for the arms to come up at all other than to try and walk the line and give him a little something extra.

  10. can someone clarify please on the offside in the ATL game? i thought his position would be irrevalent due to the defender making contact first. I thought he could still be "offsides" but since the defender touches it first that negates it being offsides. I dont really understand how he is still technically offside even when the defender makes contact…

  11. for everyone complaining about the offsides calls, just live with it. if we didnt have offsides the game would be stupid and ruin the game, defenses would sit at the top of the 18 and it would be so boring.
Also the revs player never had control of the ball. he was stretching which literally in the rules says if youre stretching its not having control of the ball

  12. Wrong. He uses his elbow as a weapon. Pathetic. You even said "when you play it at full speed then it looks like a red and I always say to watch it at full speed so that's why I'd agree with the ref that it's just a yellow." Explain that to me.
He is late and is facing the player and then at the last second he turns and swings his elbow across the body and into his neck. His arm is way too high. Can't believe there's so much defense for this type of action.

  13. I don't understand arguing that the AR should keep his flag down when it's that close, because whatever angle VAR has is definitely going to be worse than what the AR sees, so why leave it up to VAR if you have the perfect angle on it and see it as offside

  14. The MLS sure likes to claim that they are a world class league. Maybe this so called world class league should at least be able to draw lines to determine offsides.

If you draw the lines yourself, Klauss was pretty clearly onside in St. Louis.

  15. 9:23 No, Fernandez doesn't deserve a red. He's not challenging for the ball, which is required for SFP. It would have to be violent conduct, but there's not the same "endangering the safety" clause for violent conduct, so no red. Besides, it's not endangering the safety of an opponent because the studs to the leg are the result of the Portland player arriving late on an attempted tackle and catching Fernandez's follow through as a result. Portland should be glad they even got a yellow out of that.

  16. Sick and tired of "clear and obvious"

The only angle we have makes it look like Klauss is more likely to be onside than off, so it should be looked at. The AR doesn't have superpowers, with a mess of bodies and the pass being a header (aka, no sound cues) they're guessing. St. Louis jobbed

  17. A slight touch on the shoulder isn't a foul, a pull yes, but a slight touch no, as a defender you have to put the attacker off, he doesn't force the attacker down at all, football is a contact sport, you're allowed to touch the attacker.

  18. Nobody was bothered about Schlegel's 2nd yellow. It was the first one, he committed a perfect slide tackle and got booked for it.

Also add in that Pasalic got booked for pushing someone after he got pushed and then after he pushed he also got pushed against by a 2nd Red Bull players but neither Red Bull man got a card and one of those was Valencia who then did get a yellow in the 2nd half, Red Bulls should've been down to at least 9 men (if you book Pasalic, Valencia who pushed first also has to get a yellow) and then Stroud also got a yellow in the 2nd half after committing a deliberate foul in the 1st half which should've got him a yellow, Red Bulls should've got 2 reds, very easily could've got 3 but didn't get any.

  19. That Atlanta v Revs game is a perfect example of the rules absolutely ruining the watchablility of a game. Called right or wrong that made for a terrible fan and viewing experience.

  20. Isn't offsides determined when the ball is kicked where in this case the ball kicked last by the defender, deliberate or not? And when the defender kicks the ball ATL's player is behind the ball.

  21. MLS is mad at Atlanta for knocking out Miami last year. That call killed the momentum. You had to work really hard to convince yourself it was offsides. How about this question, "Should that overturn a call?"

  22. Fernandez does not deserve a card. This wasn't a challenge or tackle, it was a pass. Antony challenged Fernandez, was late, and was stepped on with the follow through. You cannot judge the result only, you have to judge the play. Yes the ball almost got away from Fernandez, but he still was the one to play the ball.

  23. Antony should have been sent off with a 2nd yellow. That's a clear 2nd yellow on the play. And for anyone that says VAR cannot give a yellow, yes it can. VAR can only be initiated for certain instances, but one initiated any corrective action necessary can be made. This was a look at a PK, a valid use of VAR, and it shows a clear yellow card to be awarded. We've seen checks for possible red cards result in a yellow being assessed. VAR is not an all or nothing thing. As long as you have grounds to initiate a review, you can take any necessary corrective actions.

  24. KC PK deserved no card. I think this is one that the slow motion and freeze frame make it look much worse than it actually was. The attacker had his foot flat on the ground while the defender had minimum pressure on the top of the foot. I'm not going to go as far as to say no PK, but if you see that in real time there's a good case for it.

Portland's Anthony put himself in danger there. It looks horrible, but he stuck his leg out with no real play on the ball right under his opponent's path. I'd put this similar to if a player tries to head a ball at waist level when the opponent is already kicking it.

  25. STL fan and both of the “offside” goals should have stood… Such bs VAR can’t draw the lines like other leagues, or the very least, keep the flag down and review after 😒

  26. Lovitz looked like he was trying to get thrown out on that play. He barely missed stomping on the foot and then finishes it off with that arm up high. I do think he missed mostly and am okay with the yellow, but it feels like he tried for more and failed.

  27. By the letter of the law, that Atlanta goal going as offsides is probably a reasonable call, and by the rules of VAR they had to review it, and because of VAR and ambiguities they had to refine the rule to get to that convoluted explanation. But the outcome is pretty unsatisfying and hurts the fun of the game.

  28. Just a terrible decision on the Joaquin play overall. Yellow? Then ref doesn't bother to go to to video to review? And what the bleep is VAR doing if they don't recommend a second look? Just incompetency all around, which i realize should simply be PRO's motto emblazoned on their ref badges "Incompetency All Around'"
