Messi and Emiliano were let down by the rest of the team, mainly the midfield. they couldn’t hold the ball, made a lot of terrible passing decisions and just overall looked bad. spain were the better team and argentina played a lot into their own defeat.

For an aging team that won 2 back to back Copa America and World cup, Argentina deserve credit to even be in the final. After the Spain dominated back to back Euro championships 2008 and 2012 and a world cup in between, in Brazil world cup 2014, they didn't even leave the group stage. I remember the same Netherlands that they defeated 4 years earlier HAMMERED them as defending Champions along with Chile. That's life. You win some, you lose some. The great Zidane and company could not even get out of the group stage as defending Champions in Japan/ Korea 2002. It happens. Life goes on. Next generation. That's it.
