LAFC and Philadelphia Union, the top-seeded teams in their respective conferences, collided at Banc of California Stadium in the 2022 MLS Cup Final. In the first half, LAFC was able to score on a free-kick by Kellyn Acosta in the 28th minute. Daniel Gazdag responded for Philadelphia with the equalizer in the 59th minute. Jesús Murillo followed with a header in the 83rd minute but Jack Elliott followed with a header of his own in the 85th minute to make the score 2-2. Jack Elliott would score again with a goal in the 120th minute +4 while Gareth Bale – who replaced Carlos Vela – notched the equalizer in the 120th +8. The game would go to penalties and ultimately LAFC would go on to win on Ilie Sánchez’s goal. Goalkeeper John McCarthy was the hero, coming in as a backup and notching key saves.

Back here after almost a year. This was my first MLS game in person. What an experience. I got there at like 9am or something and waited in the standing section all day to save my spot. Still had more energy than you can imagine at the end of the match and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Hope to be back in the stands for another cup soon!
