LAFC picked up a hard-fought 3-2 victory against the L.A. Galaxy, with goals from Denis Bouanga and Cristian Arango in the 23rd, 80th, and 93rd minutes. The Galaxy gave LAFC a game through timely goals from Samuel Grandsir and Dejan Joveljic in the 44th and 85th minutes, but it proved to be not enough.

Wow!! I´m impressed by how much and how fast the US football league has improved. Now we are decent competitors against European and Latin American teams. In a few years, we will pass from decent to serious competitors, and because our money and infrastructure, we will do great things in football. Little by little, one step at a time.

Great game, great rivalry. Couple things though: I wish players would stop mobbing the ref after big calls – there should be stricter rules around that where only the captain can approach them. Players should also stay on the field after scoring, I get you're excited but don't go climbing up into the stands to kiss your partner. Respect the officiating, respect the other team, respect the game.
MLS is awesome!
I can only think of two reasons why non Americans slag off MLS.
1.) League structure (closed, ie no pro/rel)
2.) Season format (the biggest prize, MLS Cup, may potentially go to a team which finished mid table)
To that, I respond…
1.) I agree that there ought to be some form of promotion and relegation, but it ought not be so cut and dried as the results of a single season. I would advocate a rolling three year evaluation which encompasses more criteria than the table. For example: attendance – both in raw numbers and as a percentage of available seats sold; TV/streaming viewership; club merchandise revenue; community and supporter group engagement.
Every year, the league evaluates every club based on all criteria, over the previous three seasons. The bottom two or three are dropped, while the best performers from the league below (based on the same criteria) are promoted.
League owners (franchise stewards) want to know that everyone is contributing to the health of the league. If a club is losing, playing in front of empty stadiums, failing to attract streaming audiences, and not selling licensed merch, they're dead weight.
2.) With the current season format, it's simply a question of adjusting one's focus. In a traditional European league, the focus is at the top (for placement in international competitions) and at the bottom (relegation battles). That leaves 2/3 of the league rather unimportant. In MLS, the top clubs are competing for the Supporters Shield, and all but the bottom five (give or take) are competing for playoff position. In other words, three quarters of the league are relevant, even late in the season.
But, all that is just noise. This match was fantastic. MLS naysayers ought to watch the actual product, and reevaluate their criticism. The league is a genuinely entertaining product.
