Julie Chipchase: Speed Of Transition | FA Learning Coaching Session



FA county coach developer, Julie Chipchase, delivers a coaching session with players aged 17-21 focusing on transition from defence to attack. In this session, the players will work on decision-making in moments of transition, principles of play: in possession and out of possession and attacking quickly when regaining possession.

  1. I would add a progression so that if a player scores, they join the other group to create an overload. This means that the attacking player has to scan and play quicker as a player can come up behind them to win the ball who is moving from their previous group

  2. Lovely drill I might adapt it by setting up flat cones on the third so the defenders in transition have to quickly go around them and make a decision to stay or press as a unit

  3. Nice practice. I would adapt this session by maximising touches to 3 and 1 touch finish. Or with more players would make it 3v2 and put players out wide
