Julian Gressel Traded to D.C. United! “He’s a Killer!” – Dos Santos on Chicharito | FULL PODCAST

Only one man could overshadow Chicharito in the MLS news cycle … Julian Gressel! Atlanta United got $1 million in allocation money and D.C. United got a player who they think will take them to another level. Who is the deal’s big winner? Where will Ben Olsen play his new piece? Will Atlanta have any regrets?

In the midst of all the Chicharito hoopla, the word “retirement” entered the lexicon, thanks to a vlog by the man himself. Is it a big deal? What’s the bigger context? Andrew and David discuss, then call ESPN’s Taylor Twellman to chime in on the big stories of the day, including Michael Bradley ankle drama in Toronto.

Also in this show … Exclusive 1v1 interviews with Jonathan dos Santos and Guillermo Barros Schelotto, MLSsoccer.com’s Tom Bogert on news in Colorado and Philly, Franco Jara makes FC Dallas a contender.

  1. FC Dallas and DC United are so far the big winners of the "offseason"… Despite knowing that a lot of teams are keeping their "powder" dry for the Summer transfer window, FC Dallas is my big contender to win it all… If only MLS had protected the fabulous academy they have and which has been raided so many times in the past by European Clubs (I think MLS now has some agreement with FIFA on that issue, which offers some protection for MLS Clubs, but not full protection yet).
FC Dallas is a club, I hate the notion of Franchise, who should have won the league at least three times. Looks to me like this year everything is in place, despite some rumours of European clubs wanting to take Cannon away.
I prefer not to talk about LA Galaxy, they will, for sure, sell a lot of shirts and make a lot of $$$$, like any hooker on the strip, or in San Fernando Valley, hope that makes them happy. Once again LaLa Land goes full Gaga.
Atlanta, how are you allowing an, at best, mediocre Manager to destroy your roster?
    This "League" is a mess.

A fabulous program with great interviews,
    Cheers.

  2. You guys talked about the retirement too much and didn’t get to the point. The point is it doesn’t matter how old he is, what matters is if he can produce goals at a high level as he is expected to. All the leagues have old players in Argentina for example they know how to get the best out of them. I think that’s when schelloto is crucial

  3. This CBA uncertainty is really taking its toll. The Extratime roster is being filled with desperation signings. Heath gnomes aren't enough to win a playoff match and they raided a MLS warehouse full of 'em!

  4. obviously Taylor hasnt seen chicharito played for the past 3 years for westham. he’s as much liability as zlatan defensively. at the very least zlatan can pass, winning headers from long ball/goal kicks, shoot from outside the box. chicharito lost half of his pace and outside the penalty box galaxy will play with 10 men. he hasnt run in behind for westham/sevilla and when he comes short, his passing range and hold up play are and have always been very poor. a shorter, mexican, glorified version of an old bradley wright phillips. poacher.

  5. As much as I want all teams from NY/LA to fail, I agree with Andrew with the use of "retirement". Chicarito isn't coming to the US to retire. Not everyone can make it on the largest stages, in the big European leagues. He tried, he didn't make it, he's coming to a league where he'll be competitive. Nothing wrong with that.
