  1. Simon, not everything is violent conduct or endangering the safety equaling a red card.  If you were a ref half of each team would be sent off each game.

  2. It somewhat annoys me when Simon says that "endangering the safety of an opponent" is the wording for the red card offence. The wording is "Using excessive force" Whether it's an MLS only thing (I'm from New Zealand myself) I can't tell. Anyway this is a great series and this should continue for a long time.

  3. Just because a tackle endangers a player's safety doesn't mean it should be a straight red card. I am a referee and the book says there has to be more to the context than endangering a players safety. If every time a player made a challenge like the ones Simon was suggesting each game would have a red card or two. We also have the benefit of video replay, which in good news, the league has been working on in the USL and NASL.

  4. Didnt even look like Piatti got touched…flop city. Jones should have been sent off…that was a horrendous tackle that could have easily broken the players ankle.

  5. That's the only play you show in the COL vs NER game? What about the bogus foul called with lead to the only goal of the game? Come on Simon, you can do better than this.

  6. I met Simon Borg at the MLS All-Star game this past year. He is a really humble man. You guys may not agree with his calls 100% of the time but his passion is great! Man I missed the MLS season. Always look forward to these videos, keep it up Simon!

  7. I don't take Borg seriously. It's just a silly lil video they put out.

But on a serious note, whenever i hear someone talking about "natural hand position" i always feel as though they are strictly talking out of their ass. Who is to define what a "natural" position really is? For instance, when you're going in for a slide tackle, your hand will NATURALLY fall down and brace for the fall, but I've seen a PK get called for that sort of instance.

I am so sick and tired of egregious, reckless, asinine, ridiculous and blatantly wrong handball calls. I'm so sick of them. It's so ridiculously convoluted, complicated and vague that it's a useless rule as far as i see. Simplify the fuck out of it, ANY TIME a hand hits the ball it's called. It would make everything so much better for everyone. Everyone would be so much better off; FIFA, the refs, teams, players and the organizations.

Basically what i'm trying to convey with this message is "natural hand position" is just legislative/bureaucratic bs that FIFA put into their language to protect the Refs from actually making a smart and worthwhile call.

  8. And not a thing to say about Rivas's multiple late tackles that should have sent him off. Ok. Rodney was also getting fouled up way before his tackle but sure leave that out.
