I'm a Leeds fan and actually didn't mind Marsch too much, even towards the end. His repeated appearances like this have however caused me to change my mind.
I've now reached the conclusion that he is a complete theorist, and his ideas don't translate into practice, at least not in the Premier League.
He seems to be on a crusade to promote himself as some sort of tactical genius. Instead, all he has done is shown himself to be incapable of accepting blame and to be quite delusional. You could see on the Simon Jordan thing that he made so many excuses, for instance claiming that we were actually higher in the league because of games in hand, XG or some other tripe. He refused to accept that we were 17th (or whatever it was) when the table showed that we were, and consequently refused to take any responsibility for it.
The "masterclass" in particular just highlighted how complicated his tactics were. he explained about 50 scenarios whereby if Liverpool to this, we'll do that, but if they then do this, we'll do that. His players must have been completely confused.
It did seem like the players liked his enthusiasm and belief, but he really was much more like Ted Lasso that he was Arsene Wenger.
Maybe his tactics would have worked with a much stronger squad or a weaker league, although I doubt it. I would love him to get another job in the PL to see how he does. I'd bet the farm that he fails again, unless he goes to a big club in a small league like he did in Austria
Leeds fan here. Will be interesting to see him at his next job, as for all the passion and so called tactical awareness..his football was shite!! Not good to watch. Seemed he underestimated the quality of the prem, with signings and tactics
Actually, I'm surprised how good Marsh is on this show.
People want to praise bielsa but not marsch the man was handicapped by leeds management, let’s be honest he had the worst defenders I’ve ever seen in the prem then people excepted the to keep a clean sheet
He’ll be at palace next season
Jesse Marsch was very intellectual and knew so much about the game. I hope to see him back in the Prem.
It all sounds good but you need top players to be successful when you are in a relegation battle you need to be more pragmatic. We got caught out too many times because of the quality of our team. I’m all Leeds Utd and wanted him to succeed, but the quality we had was not premiership. Bielsa wanted to improve the quality after his first season but Leeds did not back him. So he predicted he could not do 10th again. Also the quality brought in under Jesse was not up to par. We made silly mistakes in defence this was our downfall. Raphinha kept us up the second year. Then we lost him. To succeed in the premiership what ever system you play it’s quality and fitness that matters. ALAW MOT
Really like Jesse Marsh. Think he was hard done by by the fans and club. No doubt in my mind that he keeps Leeds up if they don’t sack him, people forget how energetic his teams were, very hard to play against. I’m an Arsenal fan and last year Leeds were the one game in the first half of the season I’d say Arsenal really should’ve lost
Pretty sure Jamie Carragher probably doesn’t fully understand what Jesse is explaining.. 😃
JM playing through the middle 😂
No disrespect to Roy Hodgson but I think Crystal Palace should be knocking on this guys door.
In depth analysis, tactics, no screaming, no hypothesizing, just a calm, nice, little nerdy and down to earth explanation of the game with moments of humility from players and managers. Please do more of this.
Why on earth is JM in an analysis show 😂
Marsch's real talent is his ability to convince anyone that he knows what he's doing
Would do Everton a favour relegation
Rebuild start winning again
Feed off the so called injustice which scousers love
And maybe it stops dyche winging on the line all game
Jesse said he wants 80 percent of goals to be tap-ins.
Marsh is obviously trying to put himself in the shop window here. Too bad he’s crap. Ask Leeds fans. Isn’t there some American team that can hire the poor guy? The Ohio Superheroes or the Minnesota Lake Sharks or something? The Colorado Mountain Goats?
Absolutely brilliant
Congrats lads. Valuable program , excellent info. Top guests. Love it. Keep going. ALL the best to Jessie genuine Football men.
You saw the stats in terms of distance ran, sprints, etc. this clearly meant the players were playing for him and bought into his philosophy.
He was harshly treated, they brought in 6++ players. That’s always gonna take at least a season to adapt. He would’ve kept them up and had a much better 2nd season.
HIRE THIS MAN
Really want him to be next US manager. Extremely tired of the talent we have not being used properly, he can get the best out of them.
Leeds was literally right club, wrong time, if Leeds were mid table, he'd do better. Another thing in my opinion was he was disrespected because he was American and didn't come from an "elite league" which is bogus. A lot of people in these comments wouldn't do 5% percent of his CV playing or managing….
jesse marsch as a pundit ……………worst leeds mgr ever
Love Jesse.
Thanks for full segment!
Brilliant, enjoyed every minute. Jesse Marsch 👍👍
