Jamaica 4-1 Trinidad & Tobago | HIGHLIGHTS | 2023 Gold Cup

๐Ÿ‘€ Don’t miss out on the action-packed highlights from the game between ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ฒ Jamaica and ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡น Trinidad and Tobago! โšฝ

Demarai Gray scored two goals on his 27th birthday as part of a three-goal first half that helped Jamaica secure its first win of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. The Reggae Boyz beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 in Group A on Wednesday at CITYPARK in Saint Louis, Missouri.

Gray’s first goal came in the 14th minute, when Jamaica FW Michail Antonio took the ball in the box but played a pass to Leon Bailey near the top of the arc. Bailey set up Gray, who took one touch and finished the opener.

Bailey then became the scorer three minutes later, bringing down a long ball and firing a left-footed shot past Trinidad and Tobago GK Nicklas Frenderup for a 2-0 advantage.

It was a third goal just before the break when Jamaica MF Kevon Lambert forced a turnover and played forward for Antonio, who squared so Gray could tap in his second goal of the night and Jamaica headed into the halftime break up 3-0.

After a trio of changes at the break by Trinidad and Tobago manager Angus Eve, the Soca Warriors worked to get back in the game. Trinidad and Tobago FW Levi Garcia got to the end-line and fired in a low cross that MF Andre Rampersad converted to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Neither team found the back of the net again until stoppage time. The best chance was in the 65th minute when Frenderup denied Jamaica FW Shamar Nicholson from close range and the rebound bounced just out of the reach of the onrushing Antonio.

But Frenderup was beaten late when a long shot from 17-year-old Jamaica FW Dujuan Richards took a tricky deflection off one of the shot-stopper’s teammates and went in to restore the three-goal margin at 4-1.

The meeting was the first ever between the Caribbean rivals in the Gold Cup. Jamaica now turns its attention to its final group game against Saint Kitts and Nevis, while Trinidad and Tobago close Group A action against the United States.

  1. Not wanting to be a broken record here but Jamaica's firepower were from English born person who qualify to play for Jamaica. T&T firepower or lack thereof is for the most part indigenously produced. JAMAIACA both on the male and espeically the female side are basically a collection of "Diaspora" players.

  2. Mad props to Jamaica even though I am a Trini ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡น. I just need the islands to keep showing progress and Them Reggae Boyz with the right coach – are potential World Cup perennial contenders in the making.

  3. Moses, Hackshaw, J Jones, Hodges and even A Jones, allyuh need to do better. Hackshaw- nice left foot, but please play faster and have some shots. Take what the defense gives you. J.Jones, you have to hustle back and defend too. You look too casual. Moses, please toughen up Mentally and physically. As a center back you have to set the positive tone of confidently and aggressively dominating attackers. You have to be the strong enforcer not the weak victim. Hodges, please toughen up and fight more. A Jones, You played great for many parts of the game but you need to stay focused for all 90 plus minutes and get the job done nuh. Any lapse in focus can result in conceding goals.

  4. #12 K Moses, you have to shake that defeat off and toughen up! Get confident. As a center back you have to set the tone. Toughen up mentally and physically. The harsh truth is tha Moses was weak, slow, scared, and not focused on dominating and winning. A Center Back has to be strong, confident, ruthless, fast, balanced, have good timing, make good decisions and dominate attackers. A center back cannot be a weak slow scared victim who falls all over the field and cannot trap a ball or make a proper tackle.
