We're 7th in the world in terms of players ranked in the top 25 at their positions. We are not the most talented, but definitely have way more talent than half the teams at the world cup. What needs to change is the qualifying process, how doea a team that won 7/10 games in the qualification project not qualify.

As insightful as this is, the lack of Italians playing in Serie A is definitely not the problem. It’s actually better for the national team if their best players are a mix of those playing domestically AND abroad – as has been the case. It took England years to see the effect of this (and to be honest it will take a while longer before they reap the benefits). Italy’s issues seem to run a lot deeper…
