Is the Next MLS Star in Mississippi?

In episode five of The Movement presented by AT&T (Season Two), host Calen Carr travels to Jackson, Mississippi.

Despite not being known as a soccer hotbed, Jackson launched the career of longtime MLS-vet Justin Mapp and vaulted Marlon Hairston of the Colorado Rapids and Marcus Epps of the Philadelphia Union to the league in recent years.

Carr explores how these players emerged from the nascent Mississippi soccer scene and laid the foundation for the game to grow in “the ‘Sip.”

Calen Carr, the host of The Movement presented by AT&T, is a former MLS forward for the Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire.

  1. Just imagine the next generation USMNT being a team on blacks(including immigrant backgrounds), whites, latinos and maybe native americans

  2. Had the pleasure of managing my sons soccer team in MS against CJSO team Marlon was on back in the day. I can still remember a hard fought game in Gulfport at State Cup. Talented and fierce competitors on the field and gentlemen off the field. We are all so very proud of these young men for representing soccer and this State in such a great way.

  3. So proud of Marcus and Marlon … my son is apart of CJSO here in Jackson and was apart of this video.. Thanks for coming out and allowing our boys to be apart of it ! Soccer is a great pert of  their lives !

  4. I spent a lot of time in Mississippi. I grew up in LA . I've traveled the country and hands down Mississippi has better players than in Cali and New York combined. Bet Money.

  5. Such an amazing video, you reached new heights in capturing "the movement" in this one Calen (and Calen's crew). As always, keep up the great work.

ps. Really liked that you were sporting that rapids shirt again. I definitely got to get me one of those. Custom made i if need be.

  6. Support your local team. That is first step fans need to do to embrace the league. Need a Relegation/Promote system. Im dying here to see so see mls growing bigger. Im not even even from usa.

  7. What happened to the movement video in Atlanta and the other teams from the south. I remember the game you were at Calen and it was before you even started filming this episode. What happened to it?

  8. I know that this wouldn't happen, but what if there was a MLS team in Jackson, Mississippi. It's very doubtful because of population, but it would be interesting to see Mississippi FC. Also, it would bring one sports team in Mississippi.

  9. If America doesn't get more African Americans playing soccer and people of all colours from lower income families, their chances of winning a world cup are between slim and none and slim just left town. Only greedy Americans can make the world's most inclusive sport a rich white people's sport in the USA.

  10. FC Cincinnati needs to be added to MLS. (no, i'm not from ohio) Just look at their amazing U.S. open cup run for a minor league team
