  1. Rassie tried it at munster and it didnt work and led to a munster south africa experiment that cost them so much on the pitch. He is great where he is, the right coach in the right team. But the best coaches can change any team. Look at what joe schmidt did for ireland and what he started in australia for example. He laid down the bblueprint for why we are struggling right now in green. A great coach

  2. As a South African, I'm proud of Rassie and think he is one of the very best ever.
But I would be remiss if I do not mention the names of Graham Henry and Steve Hansen here. And believe me, I'm not as keen on NZ as many South Africans are. But I will always be in awe of these two gentlemen. Tough as nails, students of the game, relentless, never made excuses when they took a loss. Both of them were credits to the game!

  3. A difficult one, this. Obviously Rassie is revered here almost to the level of deity. And he would do a stellar job coaching any team, I'm sure.

But let's not forget that SA produces some incredibly gifted players with size, speed and power. He also landed with them at a time that they have three world class tightheads in Malherbe, Koch and Nyakane (now others). The team that he got – yes, a lot of these guys scouted by him – is frightening.

Then there is the fact that he is South African, the fact that he understands our struggles and strifes. He understands our history, he understands the uncomfortable nature of discussions surrounding racial quotas. He understood the needs of the extremely demanding rugby public and the need for transformation.

So while he could and would probably be able to be a huge asset to any team, I'm not so sure if he would have the perfect storm of circumstances like he has here.

If you have him the Fijians, the Tongans or the Welsh, I'm sure he would raise their profile, but I don't think he would have all the ingredients to the secret sauce he has here.

  4. No coach has ever done it (RWC) twice… I think that puts him in the conversation of GOAT. 6-2 in 2019, which was quite revolutionary and then went a step further in ‘23!

  5. Rassie Erasmus's Springboks = Unbeaten in 74.35% of his 39 games as coach.
Graham Henry's All Blacks = Unbeaten in 85.4% of his 103 games as coach
Steve Hansen's All Blacks = Unbeaten in 90.65% of his 107 games.

Rassie would need to take South Africa's 2024 form and operate at that level for another 90 tests just to be able to match them.

He's good, very innovative, but he's not the best ever…he's technically not even the best Springbok coach, Kitch Christie never lost a game with South Africa and won a world cup with them.

  6. He’s ruined rugby. He tells his forwards to continuously fake injuries when a scrum is called so that the game stops. He’s turned rugby into soccer with the so called hard men acting like injured wimps to get a drink break then suddenly bam they’re all fine again. His team has benefited from it but rugby has suffered.

  7. Rassie coaching Fiji would probably be the funiest thing to ever happen in rugby. The most unorthodox coach coaching the most unorthodox team, imagine the possibilities
