Manchester United ended Arsenalβs historic 49-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford in October 2004. In a fiery, hard-fought match, Ruud van Nistelrooy scored a penalty, and Wayne Rooney sealed the victory in stoppage time. The game, later dubbed the “Battle of the Buffet” due to clashes on and off the pitch, marked the dramatic end of Arsenalβs “Invincibles” era β a turning point in the Premier League rivalry.

Rooney dived … this game gave me trauma as a child. The sheer injustice ….
Cant believe even teh commentators were cheats
The premier league promoting corruption as always, good for their beloved city, pgmol and all their clownsππ
The pinnacle of Premier League corruption
I'm a Man United fan and there's no way that was a penalty. Rooney dived and it was expertly done, albeit cheating the ref. But this is an iconic celebration by Ruud: 15:28 the release of tension is so obvious after his miss months earlier, that was a game where we wanted to end the unbeaten run then, but couldn't. This 2-0 game there was so much at stake, finally ending Arsenals invincible run. Since we won this 2-0 even without that penalty, we still would have won it 1-0 anyway. Rooney scoring his first ever PL goal in this game to seal it 2-0 almost brings a tear to my eye considering the goals and the work he put in after this!
Crazy how the NORTHERN co-commentator and the ref were so biased towards Manchester Utd. The Ferdinand foul on Ljunberg and Neville on Henry was blatant smh.
"The balance of power very much in the balance" – Robbie Earl's half time conclusion π
Van Nistelrooy missed a penalty (the one where Keown was yelling in his face afterwards) and if Ruud had scored that it would have ended Arsenal's unbeaten run WAY sooner than what they managed. In true rivalry fashion, we beat Arsenal ages after to actually end their invincible run! Incredible times… at least for me as a Man United fan… now in 2025 we are dogchit, absolute dogchit.
What a match this was. My first ever live game I watched.
Sham league, sham referees, sham organisation
Robbie Earle with some of the most biased horrendous commentary ever
Back when my club had different attacking options Rooney ronaldo van nisterooy Saha etc , now Liverpool has adopted that exact pattern now and they got the most attacking options in the league in 2025
I'm surprised this has been uploaded without editing it like Sky do.
When they try to put you down proof how good you are.
If no more why the invincible still there?
Glory days are OVER for sure. π
The pronunciation of Heinze is infuriating?
Cool match!
21 years since Arsenals last league title. πππππππππ
Arsenal fans crying in the comments πππ
Highway robbery by United, refs and whoever behind this bllsht
You mean when United cheated and paid the ref?………Oh wait, we're not allowed to say that are we, it was a secret! π
One of the biggest examples of the refs being corrupt for Fergie
How Ferdinand didn't get red card for that challenge on Ljunberg baffles me.
Corrupt league. Corrupt officials
great rivalry between these two teams..no love lost at all..proper football
Including the bench United had four recognised strikers, nowadays we're are lucky to have one.
Those long sleeve baggy shirts rippling in the wind, the total 90 ball, the sheer rivalry. These were peak premier league times
That passion for the shirt is now extinct these players were world class but also CARED its painful what we are now
If Arsenal weren't beaten that day, they'd still have been unbeaten till date
This Utd team was so good. They formed the core of the team that did the double (Champions League + EPL) 3 years later.
Near all would walk into the 2025 team & improve it massively. Watch how Scholes just keeps the midfield ticking. Even Saha, who started on the bench here, is a better striker than Amorim's 2.
15:42 what a shot
The worst performance by a referee, in ANY sport EVER!
Even the commentators were unbelievably biased!
Man Lauren was a warrior. If i would have watched him back then, I'm sure he would have been one of my favourites. And also surprised by vieira's sloppiness on the ball, reminds me of the 98 fa cup semifinal against united when he gave that ball away
Of course the Premier league page conveniently not showing all the red card tackles the united players were commiting, one of the most corrupt matches ive ever seen
Sickening watching this back. Utter corruption from the refs.
Not a fan of either team, but the corruption in this game off the charts. Fergie had all the refs genuinely in his pocket.
Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud π―πͺπ½β€οΈ
, Man United & referee allegations are not getting away soon
1. Missed red card for R. Ferdinand challenge against Ljungberg
2. Rooney dive, fake penalty
what the hell happened to the league. look how exciting and fast the action is.
now in 2025 its slow and always a backpass. the ball never goes forward.
sadly i think they may need to make a rule that once the ball goes across the halfway line that you arent allowed to backpass into your own half. also theres no more long balls forward. i wouldnt like to add that rule but perhaps getting rid of offsides would mean more variety and balls forward. wow that would be exciting
Looking at that rio definitely should've been sent .
I do not watch this daylight robbery. Even after all these years. This hurt more than the 8-2, cause in that day they walloped us fair and square.
The most satisfying day of my life. And I was 9 when this match happened.
Arsenal had this shit coming.
Oh the memories. I was at that game ! Cβmon United ! #MUFC
